Hey guys, had to fly to Alabama on short request as we had a bit of a medical emergency with the family. All looks ok but I'm here in the B'ham for at least a few days. Nice news is that I will have lots of quiet time sitting in the waiting room with nothing to do but sit and work on some design issues, answer emails, etc. So silver lining and all that, right?
Anyway, I won't be able to update this week but I thought I'd link to the VERY LONG audio interview I did the other night with the great website neogaf.com! It was fun to do as I just stood out on my deck, looked up at the stars, and gabbed. Not very explosive for those looking for the usual Jaffe bullshit. But it is lots of talking about games, so if you are into such stuff, please check out the link. And if you have yet to go to neogaf, especially the forums, check those out while you are there...one of my fave websites on the net!
Ok, heading off to the hospital. I will talk with you ya'll soon! Here's the link:

Awesome interview. Most of the things you said I agree with. The thing that shocked me the most was the George Lucas thing because in that same interview (I think) he said that nothing is ever finished and creator's always feel like they need to go back and fix some things (like he did with the Special Editions). I've always had that around my head when working on something to calm me down cause I'm a perfectionist when it comes to my projects.
ReplyDeleteI also hope the new Indy game isn't just a brawler cause that'd get me pissed. Technology is always secondary to gameplay. Gameplay is king. That should be the mantra for every game studio just like "Story is king" is for Pixar.

Hey David,
ReplyDeleteHope all is going well with the family. Hopefully you’ll get to spend some holiday time with the Fam while you’re out there. My wife and son just got back from Birmingham while visiting her family for Thanksgiving. One of these days I need to get out there and see some of the south. :)
Take care,
Spencer
Hi David,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link. Great interview!
Hope all is well with your family.
Take care.
Listened to the interview earlier, and thought it was really great. Very candid and genuine. I'm actually about to listen to the next-gen podcast you mentioned.
ReplyDeleteAlabama... didn't know you were from around here. I live in Panama City, FL, and man, I'd just like to shake your hand and say good job.
I noticed you kept mentioning "The guys at Incognito" like they weren't the people you worked with every day. I kinda thought that was your studio. Is it that you work at SM and just have a close connection with the Incog guys? Did this separation happen when SingleTrac dissolved?
Next-gen Twisted Metal: Yes, please.
Also, I think it would be awesome if you could clout around and get the first Twisted Metal on the PS3/PSP download service. TM2 also, but 1 was my favorite. Same with Warhawk WITH the super-cheesy FMV!
K, I'm getting giddy. Hope everything's well with the family. Later!
Hey David,
ReplyDeleteThis is my first post on your blog, and I'm listening to the interview as I'm writing this. Great interview so far, if it involves the games industry, its got my attention.
Michael said... "Next-gen Twisted Metal: Yes, please."
I would just like to say... YES, PLEASE! (Twisted Metal: Black is still the BEST car combat game)
David and Ingcog have to come home!
Thanks for the great games.
P.S. if you really don't have a PS3 yet, you have to contact me. I might be able to help you get one before Christmas. I work at a certain game store in San Francisco (I actually met you at the store around the time God of War released, and you took a picture of me for your old blog site). Let me know!

Excellent interview!! Hope everything's alright in the family.
ReplyDeleteHoping everything is OK with your family Dave. Gaming may be your business, but family is most important.
ReplyDeleteP.S. As far as using Dave's clout to get TM1 on the PSP download service, I doubt he is involved. I would think SCEA has a group of programmers working it. But that's just my speculation. Dave has bigger fish to fry (or games to work on).
If we don't hear from you, Have a safe and happy holiday.
-David O.
Also, glad to see that you will be looking back into the Twisted Metal series hopefully. I always enjoyed the gameplay and the sick characters that go with it. :)
ReplyDeleteHey Dave I hope your family's doing okay, to be honest family is more important than anything else in the world.Oh can't wait to play Calling all Cars looks pretty fun to play, there should be more original downloadable games.Oh if you ever make another twisted metal game I hope you do it when your comfortable enough.
ReplyDeleteWhat are your thoughts on Heavenly sword it kinda has that god of war feel to it with a martial arts twist to it.
Just to let you know MotorStorm became the #1 selling Ps3 game in Japan how cool is that.
