BIG ANNOUNCEMENT COMING FRIDAY

...well big announcement for ME. It's not like I'll be revealing what game we've been working on, stuff like that. Well actually, I will be able to talk a little bit about ONE of the games for the first time...

...anyway, the points are these:

a- sorry I've been out of touch this last week; was in Bama for a great wedding and great visit with the family. I actually took some cool pics from Cracker Barrel (love the biscuits!) that I may post...not sure why....I just love eating at that place. And they don't have them out here in So Cal.

EDIT#1: Here's the pic....I ordered a side biscuit and assumed it would be a single biscuit. But damn if it wasn't a PLATE of biscuits and cornbread...mmmm....good!

b- Thursday is comiccon day 1! I will only get to go for a day this year as I am swamped but I will prob post something from there if I see cool stuff...always do. I really wanna try to make it to the Kevin Smith panel.

c- Friday-at 9am (PR wants to send the press release out before I post...so no 12:01 update)...but at 9am, I will post news of my future. Again, it's a big deal for me personally and it does deal with my work. So this week I'll be able to spill SOME of the beans...and I'll prob. spew about how I'm dealing with this very, very big change in my work life.

Hope to see ya'll soon!

David

ps. Just FYI, the game alot of you guys seems to think we are working on, we are not. Sorry to dissapoint :(

  2. Not going to jump to conclusions, but this really could give people the impression you're going to work for a new company. I'm excited to find out what's up, but I'm also prepared to see the rumor show up on joystiq or kotaku in the next day or so.
Take care Dave! Keep up the good work!

  3. You are going to be working At EA with Peter Moore aren't you? Just tell us now. ;D

  4. I wonder what this is going to be. Sure sounds like you are making a move to something, perhaps starting your own company. I mean, if I'm going to put this in with that abandoned building looking like that you posted a while back... Guess we'll find out.

As long as you're still going to be making games I'll be happy.

  5. you're pregnant? ;-)

Hmmm peaked my curiosity, will be interesting to hear. Have fun at comic-con. I don't know if you got to see Live free or Die Hard but Kevin Smith has a great camio...well it's more of a supporting roll because he does have some prime screen time, anyways it was awesome. If you see him at the show let him know some of his fans liked it, it was hilarious.

Good luck with your new endeavors, I hope it means more great entertainment for us interactive enthusiasts.

Oh forgot to mention. Saturday one of my friends in town will host a town meet and greet with John Edwards. I've been invited to attend. I'm not sure if my friend has the camera room for it to be televised for air time but It will be interesting none the less.

Jaffe will anounce that he now has his own studio and is backed by Sony.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Anonymous6:51 PM

Sucks that you pretty much said that you aren't working on a new Twisted Metal, but whatever it is you're digging into; I'm pumped! Calling all Cars was/is a blast!

just hope it's not another dual-stick shooter.

  19. *Sigh*

I realize it's not your problem Dave, but I do wish the future was a bit brighter for Twisted Metal fans. We've sure had a rough ten year history with extreme highs (TMB, TM2, TM1) and extreme lows (989, 6 years since Black). Surely there's some developer in Sony world that could and wants to take this series somewhere. Maybe spread the word for us?

Congrats on whatever great career move is coming up. I look forward to your next game.

  34. torgo- I'm down for that.

Shoot me an email where I can reach you and if we can work out the times (I'll be at Comic Con most of the day) I would love to do a phone in for your show.

Good luck what ever your going to do, God bless

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anonymous8:50 AM

Well, seems unlikely that you are going somewhere else, unless you want the irony of announcing that you are leaving Sony on the Playstation Nation podcast.

No new TM. :( *sigh* I guess Twisted Metal will take it's place along with other games such as Jet Moto that really deserve a remake or sequal, but will never get one.

Ah well, Black was a great end to the series if it was in fact the end. All I can hope for is that Incognito or Sony Santa Monica are working on a new one.

Best of luck to you Jaffe, whatever you may be doing.

  40. Hello David,

I was wondering if sometime I can interview about how it's like being game designer and hows it like being in the game industry. The interview might have some questions about Calling all Cars, God Of War, and some of your other titles because all questions are generated from members of Sony's Gamer Advisory Panel. I hope we can work something out. Take care.

Not that I know much about the future of gaming, but i know about the past... Either that's Dr. Wily, and you're going to work for Capcom, or capcom just sold the rights to you're company, and you guys get to introduce the next gen.

New Studio and a new game that's kind-of what people were talking about.

"In addition to the multi-year, multi-title deal to create titles for the PlayStation family of products, the company will also be creating Twisted Metal(R): Head On for PlayStation 2, which is scheduled to be released this winter."

    ReplyDelete
  52. Anonymous6:58 AM

By the way, yes, I admit that I was wrong, it is a Twisted Metal game.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hey Torgo, I don't think you were supposed to release that info that he told you...

SCEA to Eat, Sleep, Play With Jaffe's New Studio; Working on Twisted Metal, More
by Chris Remo Jul 27, 2007 7:54am CST
Confirming earlier rumors, Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced that acclaimed God of War and Twisted Metal creator David Jaffe has founded a new Utah-based game development studio with Incognito Entertainment founder and now-former president Scott Campbell.

The new studio, which goes by the moniker Eat, Sleep, Play, has signed a multi-year deal with Sony to create games exclusively for PlayStation platforms. The first announced game is Twisted Metal: Head On for PlayStation 2--presumably at its core a port of the 2005 PSP title--which will contain new material in the form of previously-unreleased Twisted Metal Black levels and a series documentary about which Jaffe recently blogged.

Further unspecified games from Eat, Sleep, Play will follow in 2008. According to the wording of today's press release, the company seems to be an independent studio despite its PlayStation exclusivity agreement. Independent Ratchet & Clank series developer Insomniac Games operates similarly.

When original rumors of the new studio surfaced, Jaffe stated, "I sure as shit ain't moving to Utah." At the time, 1UP reported that Jaffe plans to work remotely from his home in California. Shacknews has contacted SCEA for clarification on the matter.

Following his work on SCE Santa Monica's God of War (PS2), Jaffe expressed his desire to focus on smaller-scale, more personal games. He then directed the PlayStation Network game Calling All Cars (PS3), developed by Incognito. It is not clear what types of games Jaffe will developed at Eat, Sleep, Play, beyond the announced Twisted Metal: Head On.

Incognito Entertainment will remain a fully-owned Sony studio, headed up by Warhawk (PS3) director Dylan Jobe.

"We are extremely pleased to be working with David and Scott and supporting them in their new endeavor," said SCEA senior product development VP Shuhei Yoshida. "Through hit after hit, they have established themselves as two of the most talented individuals this industry has ever seen, and I look forward to seeing what kind of further gaming innovation they can bring to the PlayStation brand through our new development deal."
