DO I EVEN WANT TO VOTE ANY MORE?!?

SECOND UPDATE:

Real fast:

a- I've seen some comments where people assumed I was stoned when I made these videos. Just to be clear. I do think weed is fine FOR ADULTS to use SOMETIMES. I have used it in my adult life a small number of times, but not many. But I have nothing against it. BUT I never show up to work- or in this case, when I'm about to start work in the morning- stoned or having had a drink (which I also rarely do). I was really, really tired yesterday cause I had spent 2 days walking 2 little around Disneyland and I was wiped. That is why I seem so fried.

b- I never said that I was intelligent because I was liberal. I said that the views I had just expressed in that part of the video to me- because I am liberal- were intelligent TO ME. And then said, if you are a conservative, you would think the views I had just expressed in the video were STUPID. Some of you people need to learn to read and watch shit better, but hey, what's new.

END SECOND UPDATE:

UPDATE:

Note to Kotaku: Come on guys, you really think this is worth putting on your blog? I LOVE Kotaku but this is nuts...when we talk about our games- which yes, you smarmy Kotaku journalist asshole, we ARE making a new one :) - we would LOVE for you to cover it and hell, if you gotta cover this in order to cover that, then go ahead. But please, the people who give a shit what I say know to come here....no reason to put this totally non game related rant on your site, is there?

And this is not me saying: JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!!! If you think your readers care, put it up. I'm cool with that. It's just odd that you would think they actually care. By reading the comments, they sure don't seem to.

And yes, calling you an ass is a joke- I love your site!

END UPDATE

+++++++++++++++

Sorry about the double videos- accidentily hit the stop button when recording the first one.

Have a great weekend ya'll!

David

ps. I think it's cool how it looks like Jeanne D'arc is looking up at me over there on a bit to the bottom right...

  1. i may not agree with everything you say, but i agree that some middle ground between the party's would be nice. this is my first prez election that i'm old to vote for and i gotta tell ya, i don't want to. if i do it'll be for mccain but really, i just don't want to vote for either. i've tried to wrap my head around what these fuckwit politicians are saying and i've got no fucking clue. they say one thing this week and something completely different the next. it's making my choice depressing. neither of them is a good choice in my book and the reason is because they're stereotypical republicans and democrats. and everyone in their respective party's are swallowing their hypocritical fecal matter without pause. all i want is someone who doesn't care about votes and who will speak their mind and let us all know what they stand for. so, you gonna join the race david? cause you got my vote :) it's refreshing hearing someone middle minded in this bipartisan world. jaffe 08!

I know what site you are referring to that is painting you a sexist because I read it on a daily basis. Considering the specific subject that site pertains to, it's been a slow month in regards to politics and how it effects the software industry. So it's not surprising the lead editor (whom I won't mention but if you know the site, you'll know who I am speaking of.) would pick this up as a means of filler.

Also, the fact that updates regarding the legal entanglement a certain anti-game activist are next to zilch is a contributing factor as well. Updates involving him would get so much traffic and comments, it was ridiculous.

Anyway, I think everyone needs to take a break from your blog if all they are doing is smearing you and painting you as a loud mouth. Sure, you're outspoken but that's the nature of the beast. If outspoken people are bothersome to anybody, it's best to ignore them.

    Besides, it's a personal blog. It's serving it's purpose.

Erico, yes Obama is definitely supporting nuclear power - you should check out his speech at the Democratic Convention on YouTube if you get the chance.

    Dave,

You misunderstood the point of the speech that Sarah gave.
When she said "... worried about their rights", that was sarcasm. She implied that Obama was not worried about big stuff but things that were not important. You should be able to detect those things with ease. Said to say but you have another brain failure.

She used jokes and sarcasms that got to the point and made Hillary (I'm one of her supporters anyway) look childish.

  7. Anon- sorry, but when you feel violating one of the key rights that this country is built upon- right to a fair trial- is a 'small' thing, you are the one who doesn't get it.

The whole issue was- as I saw it- Palin feels she and McCain are going to protect the USA from terrorists and Obama is more worried about making sure they have been read their rights.

A good attack on Obama only if you think that all/most of the folks who have been rounded up since 9/11 and had their rights shit upon are- indeed- terrorists.

If you - like me- feel that a great % of those people were arrested and detained unfairly, then they not being read their rights, given access to a lawyer, and being able to be arrested without any real cause are things to be terribly sad about and afraid of and want to see changed in this country that proclaims to be a place build upon the principles of freedom and democracy.

You've got my vote, Mr. Jaffe. For one, I absolutely believe that abortions are a bad choice... but I also believe that good or bad, they should still be a choice. The point of government isn't supposed to force us to be moral under threat of fines, prison, or death... the point of government is to protect our rights so that we can live freely and to trust that, when given the choice, we will gravitate towards the moral choice.

Secondly, I think that relying on drilling for more oil is a bad idea. About 10 years ago, it would have been a great plan. In this day and age, we need a better solution sooner. Starting to drill for more oil NOW will really help us in 5-10 years, but we need help NOW. This requires smarter solutions.

It seems to me that Palin is just a female version of McCain, which is why he probably chose her.

On a side note, Mr. Jaffe, I think you should vote. You've got a decent head on your shoulders and if you let the political circus give you such a headache that you don't want to be involved, then the only ones in power will BE the political circus. We need to regain control of this country and let our voices be heard.

Vote Green Party this year. The voting system is a joke as it is with the Electoral College Bullshit making the popular vote literally useless. Green Party isn't considered "major" and is therefor excluded from the debates and basically shunned in the public eye. However, if any party were to receive at least 5% of the popular vote, then that party will be considered major enough to be allowed into the debates and back into the public eye. I do not agree with either Democratic or Republican platforms entirely, and I think both parties focus too much on the unimportant things. Green party is the way to vote, and is pretty much the only way to vote to make your vote actually count anymore, since the Pop vote has no effect on the major two parties. Consider that if/when you go to vote this election.

We vote for what we feel is best for us. I think John Mc Cain is a great man. I think he's a better man than the last 4 presidents. I think our country would be safe in his hands and his presidency would blow away W's in terms of passing legislation and addressing actual problems.

I like what Obama says more. I chose to believe it. I want to know it for a fact. Sky is blue, Water is Wet, Obama isn't full of shit -- but I don't know it for a fact. The older we get and the more we see, it becomes harder and harder to chose. We've been disappointed and tricked too many times to not suspect it.

    Suspecting shit is Wisdom.

I don't live in the States anymore and nor do I have the right to vote anyways, but if given the chance now I would surely vote for Obama. It's "little issues" like the whole rights being read, abortion and things like that really make me consider who to vote for and quite honestly, I'm not willing to support a president and his VP who has a daughter not even 19 if I remember correctly who is already pregnant and that she is going to marry the father of her child. I'm fairly sure they only reason they go through the motions is to maintain a credible facade of republican support. And of course this will lead to divorce, cause let's face it, that marriage won't last. The only reason they'll be together is because some fuckhead didn't wrap his dick and he'll end up a wreck, and that kid will end up an emotional mess from lack of a father and the mother and grandmother... well, they'll just smile for the parties and conventions while inside they wished they had aborted this lifestyle bred by the birth a little mistake they weren't prepared to love.

    @anonymous,

    >>>"I am pretty wary of obama. To much of a shady background"

I am pretty wary of your opinion. After all, you are a satanist, you murdered someone 10 years ago (but didn't get caught,) you visit various forums on the Internet just to post lies, you sold all of the secrets of the United States to the enemies, and your plan is to blow up the Earth. This is why you post anonymously.

Don't believe everything you read, Mr. Anonymous.

Plenty of lies have been stated about Obama. Plenty of lies have also been stated about McCain. And plenty of lies have been stated about Palin. Some of these lies MAY be true, but who are we to really know. If a potential lie makes everyone shady, then every person who has ever run for office is shady. For instance, McCain told a story about a prison guard drawing a cross in the dirt... but there are claims that this is just a plagiarized fictional story that never actually took place.

There are also claims that Palin's smaller child is actually her daughter's first baby, but that she claimed it as her own to protect her daughter. With the second pregnancy, there was no hiding it, with the spot-light as VP candidate and all.

Is any of this true? Maybe. Maybe not. If you don't know, the American Way is "innocent until proven guilty." In this case, the past does not matter. All of those running are on equal standing and should be judged on their ability to function as President/Vice President next year.

If you like the way the past 8 years have been, McCain/Palin are a pretty safe bet. If you're looking for REAL change (not just a change in name or a change in year,) Obama/Biden are a safer bet.

So you were bit by the media and political correctness? You are a public figure for better or for worse. That is the day and age we live in, but really nothing has changed that much. Look at the OLD political cartoons done in ink. The press wasn't much nicer back then either.

The point is, if you parade your political views on a blog you feel is just a private place to put your thoughts, you are going to have people that will pick them apart. Often the press will sensationalize things, not because they are evil. It's so they can create a better headline.

If you feel the press is being unfair to you then just imagine how the candidates feel. Now compound that by the fact that most of the people reporting the media don't share the same views as half of the candidates. I don't feel bad for them, they asked for it, they signed up to be political public persons.

Politics and religion and to very touchy subjects and intertwined it's a powder keg.

So what if she thinks that the world is only 6,000 years old. How does that disqualify a woman who is obviously intelligent. She had enough moxy to clear out some corruption in her home state. When she became governor she sold the governor's plane and fired the chef. That is admirable in my eyes.

Honestly, how do we know the world wasn't created in 6,000 years? Let's put this in perspective. If one believes in a higher power that is completely omnipotent, who is to say that being's definition of a year is the same as ours. Sure we have tons of evidence that says that the earth is MUCH MUCH older. Every persuit of knowledge is followed by a deeper layer. So our understandings of the universe will never be complete.

I really don't see how that can be an immediate disqualifer unless you are just anti-religion.

So you are liberal and you think that makes you intelligent?

That is exactly the kind of statement one could sensationalize but I will refrain from direct comment.

Look you sound kind of down, but you kind of threw a match into a pile of gas really. Is the process corrupted? Sure. But we are much worse off then some places on this big blue ball we call home? Think of how the citizens of countries must feel where their leaders get 90%+ of the popular vote in a free election, yet utilize a dictator style leadership.

If you have a free and relatively open system of government there is always going to be kinks to iron out. I hate to break you or anyone's bubble but we are a long way off from Star Trek land. Where everyone on earth is on the same team and now we can be dicks to aliens. :)

Seriously, the media will always do it's job of selling their product. They will always sensationalize things. Would you really want to not know the next time Paris Hilton makes another night-vision porn? To some degree the sky will always be falling with the media. It's just the nature of the beast when you have a free and open system.

You have to take the good with the bad, that duality exists everywhere in life it only makes sense it is represented in our system of government.

  18. To Anon:

"So you are liberal and you think that makes you intelligent?"

No- rewatch the video. What I was TRYING to communicate was that- because I am liberal- the views I had just expressed- to me, as a liberal- are intelligent views. I was trying to imply that a conservative would probably not feel those views were those of an intelligent person.

On a pure philosophical level, sure, who knows how old anything is, who knows if this world is even real or if it's a dream,etc,etc,etc...But we are electing people to govern the world that we all live in, that we all- for the sake of non chaos- have agreed exists...what we call 'the real world'.

Under that definition, someone who thinks the world is 6000 years old is ignoring science and education and what most people call proof. The fact that this woman choses to ignore all of that- along with wanting to take away a woman's right to choose, has been involved in taking the first steps to ban books from a local library, and wants to teach creationism not in a religion class but in science class, tells me that her views are fringe at best and fucking bat shit at worst.

What is to stop her from helping bring about the END OF DAYS in order to get to REVELATIONS and finally, her just rewards- as promised in the Bible- if she takes the book so literally?

I do not want her even close to the button.

    Hmmm . . . what a hotbed of stuff.

    1. Government is not about ignoring morality. We have laws against murder to protect citizens and we don't say it's okay for Dave to kill Starclips because it should be Dave's choice. From the anti-abortion perspective it's the same issue and saying it's about "choice" sounds as ludicrous as the murder example I gave. If you don't address this you aren't addressing the opponent's argument.

I'll lay my cards down on the table and say I've never heard a good argument for abortion (I'm ignoring rape/incest because those are special cases where arguments can be made). I challenge anyone here to come up with one. I think people support it because they want to have sex with whomever/whenever/wherever and if something goes wrong nuke it. It's so important for people to be able to have sex without fear they're willing to believe anything (kind of similar to how important it was for us to pick cotton regardless of cost in the 19th century - we'll rationalize anything under the banner of selfishness).

Goverment, when done right, should be about protecting society. Personal rights are only protected so far as it means not trampling on another human being's rights. Some moral choices therefore are enforced (like murder) and other debated moral issues (like most forms of pornography) are not.

    2. Dave, are you sure you can't think of even one good thing about Palin? I can think of good things about most candidates that run. If a person can't usually it means their bias is a bit too strong to see the reality of the situation.

For example, what about budget cut decisions? Those were pretty impressive to me. We could use politicians who don't abuse are taxes.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Anyone who claims to be pro-life and wants me to take them seriously can not also support the war in Iraq. If you want to be a total stickler, they can't support any war or the death penalty. But for now, I'll let it slide and just say: if someone was anti abortion and also anti 'wars that were fought for no good reason' where people died- innocents and non innocents- then I think I would respect them more.

But to be anti abortion and claim it's because you respect life but then be fine with all of the allies who have died in the Iraq war not to mention the many, many more innocent civilians who have died in Iraq seems hypocritical to me.

And as for a good argument to abortion that has nothing to do with rape/incest, the argument that the only reason pro choice people want to keep abortion legal is so they can fuck without consequence is a joke, right? You really think that is the reason why? Come on, man. That's at best inflammatory for the sake of getting a rise out of someone and at worst it's simply, well, not all that bright.

Look, I appreciate the anti- abortion people's stance. But they should stay the fuck out of people's business including the business of unborn babies. Once all of the injustices of this world- at home and abroad- have been tackled and the lives of people already fucking born have improved- THEN they can turn their attention to making life better for the fucking unborn. Until that time, it's none of your business.

And another thing, what the FUCK is up with most anti-abortion folks also being anti contraception and anti-sex ed and pro abstinence? Do they live in fucking Disney Land? I mean, what fucking insanity.

    David

Also, why is it we can only fight two fronts? Why can't we fight against war and abortion?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Anonymous7:15 PM

I do need to clarify - I don't think that pro-abortion people give the argument that they want to do it for selfish reasons. I think they give the choice argument which I explained why I think that's a hollow reason.

However, I do think the REAL reason they defend it is the same reason human beings have excused all sorts of behavior throughout history. That would be the selfish reason.

    Dave,

That's very true. It has always blown my mind that conservatives are so radically different there, and the same disconnect has always existed for me with liberals.

I realize the argument is still ongoing, so not to force agreement on this, but from my perspective it has always blown my mind that most liberals are for abortion. They seem like the party who champion human rights - more particularly human beings treating each other right - and as such it has always surprised me that there is this one case that seems every much the same struggle with slavery/homosexuality that they would typically side with the oppressed and yet they take the opposite stance of what I would expect.

Who is the guy you're talking about?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think- for me- it comes down to this:

When a fetus is old enough that the vast majority of folks consider it alive, MOST people become anti-abortion because there is a sense that it is human enough to merit the protections of government.

But when you are talking about globules of cells that looks and acts and thinks- at best- like a sea monkey and you are putting the quality of THAT life up against the quality of life- assuming a woman wants to abort- the life of the mother who does not WANT the kid and the kid will suffer for that and then you have at least TWO lives that are shit, well then I say: side with the adult.

I look at that and think it's logical.

I look at alot of folks who hear that argument and see that they just come back with: well, she shouldn't have gotten preggers in the first place then!

Which is bullshit code for: well she shouldn't have has SEX then anyway!

Which is bullshit code for either: sex scares the shit out of me and I'm one of the repressed republicans who need to play footsie in the bathroom stalls

    OR code for:

The bible says don't have sex unless you are married- doesn't it?- and I want to push the ways of the Bible on everyone in the world....which to me sounds a hell of alot like what they are accusing alot of the radical Muslims are doing- which on the radical side, it seems they are.

All of this to me equates to: mind you own fucking business and stay the hell out of the my life.

    :)

    Interesting point.

This argument will continue to be a hot topic, no doubt. I think, however, that if the liberals truly believe they're right and they hope to convince people of that case they're going to have to drop a few things which don't serve their argument well. This is also true for conservatives. I'll give a few examples of mistakes both groups make.

    1. The constant clamor for choice. Choice does not excuse anything - a choice can be good, evil, or just a choice with no real moral consequence (though all choices have a consequence they aren't necessarily moral ones). Choice shouldn't be the reason abortion is okay, if it were, it would be okay to kill your neighbor because he cut you off. I think we can see the absurdity of that example, and therefore it should be easy to see why it won't excuse the other. If abortion is okay, it had better have something more powerful behind it than "I made a choice."

    2. "Mind your own business" really isn't a defense. If it really is killing another human being, we can't defend it with "mind your own business." We don't allow pedophiles, bank robbers, or rapists to get away with it based on some "right to privacy." It doesn't make anymore sense to apply it here either.

I realize that sounds pointed to you Dave but it's not meant to be. It's a common rallying cry. In fact, it's the very reason the Supreme Court claimed it was a right in the first place, but whatever the case, it is not a powerful claim. No one's right to privacy supersedes someone else's right to life. Right to life trumps privacy.

    3. Both sides need to be careful not to commit the fallacy of false dichotomy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_dichotomy. For example, liberals assuming the mom must raise the kid (why not adoption) or conservatives assuming we have to have all or nothing. Or that it's either abstinence or abortion. There are many other options that we should have on the table. I think this is part of what Obama was trying to say, and is one of the reasons I give him props in this area.

    4. Conservatives need to drop the Bible as the reason to prohibit abortion. It's okay if that's where their philosophy comes from, but they had better be able to formulate a secular reason for why it's wrong and let that be the reason given.

Now let me admit something, I don't necessarily have a compelling argument that aborting a human being before they've been in the womb one month is wrong. It's hard for me to debate the fact that one minute after conception not much has changed. However, I do see a dangerous line trying to guess at what point a human being becomes worth keeping. I don't consider myself qualified to answer that and if I can't conclusively say it's not murder I'm going to be . . . well . . . conservative.

My personal perspective, I think life will get better the sooner human beings learn to have an absolute respect - and I do mean absolute - for human life. I think respecting human life (and herein may lie the defense for even the globule of cells - life that has potential) is the last great obstacle we face as a society. I personally am not there yet, I'm not sure any of us are.

To conclude, it's my hope that in time evolution will lead to the better version of ourselves that can value human life above the other things we have so often traded it for.

No one give me any horse shit on why Obama isn't either because the fact of the matter is that Palin while a good governor for the state of Alaska is not suited for the vp slot at all. Here are the reasons....

    - Only RECENTLY got her passport to actually travel outside the country to visit the troops in Kuwait, while honorable that does not make here an expert on foreign policy. Other then that she has not been outside the United States. For someone like Mccain whos campaign is running heavily on the foreign policy issue this choice is all the more befuddling.

    - A campaign spokesperson actually said that Her being the governor of Alaska and it having close proximity with Russia gives her more foreign policy experience that Biden and Obama....was he trying to make me laugh?

    - She was the Mayor of Wiscilla a place where their town hall looks more like a Dennys then a place where major political decisions are made.

    - Specifically stated and I quote "Its Gods will for us to Drill in the United States" and "Its Gods will for us to be at war with Iraq". I'm baptized a christian and I don't remember the bible saying anything about us attacking Iraq and drilling for oil...... I don't know about you but I believe in the separation of church and government.

    - Although she has an approval rating of 80%+ in Alaska the state itself has a total population of 700,000 people, the smallest district in Illinois has almost 1.2 Million, with a total population of over 13 million.

    - I'm supposed to believe this was anything other then gamble/desperation maneuver by Mccain. He has at the very least 10 people who were better qualified, more known and fits in line with his style of politics yet he chooses a woman to try and steal away Hilary Clinton voters and to satisy the conservative base..... I find it absolutely absurd that he carries the assumption that Hillary Clinton voters will just vote for Palin because shes a woman....Not only is that ignorant their two totally different people 1 has actual experience around the globe the other eats mooseburger and is a hockey mom. If any conservative votes for her for just having conservative values you don't deserve to have the right to vote.

If someone can give me some actual qualifications this woman has I'm all open ears, till then my opinion on her is VPILF, Talented Orator, Hockey Mom, No Experience, Doesn't know jack squat about Foreign Policy.

I do feel like there's a bit of a double standard here. When people attacked Obama for experience it seemed like the argument was, "Experience isn't necessarily vital."

Now that the tables have turned Palin is being attacked for her experience.

In palin's (a.k.a MILF VP ) speech she didn't say nothing about what would she do if they win. All she did was take shots at Obama. She seems like mccain's attack dog, insted of giving her guideline if she is the next VP. that's just me.

I love your work, keep up the great work. One of your fans. much love and respect.

  38. "I think- for me- it comes down to this:

All of this to me equates to: mind you own fucking business and stay the hell out of the my life."

No offense dave but you're pretty anti-conservative and anti-republican. Not sure why you think Palin can't lead the free world while Obama can when Palin has at least run a state as a government and Obama really hasn't run jack, if Palin can't lead the country, Obama isn't exactly remotely qualified.

I'm not a big fan of Kotaku, but don't voice your opinion and complain when other people read it and try to pick it apart.

Personally I'm not anti-abortion and don't believe in the bible, but people have a right to their beliefs even if you don't agree with them. Palin isn't the presidential candidate and McCain is much more in the middle than most of the republican party.

What is Obama's redeeming quality? His ability to give a good speech full of rhetorics and empty promises? He's not going to unite the country, not really. He's never going to reach out to those in the right, both candidate are fighting for the middle.

If you're stressing fairness here, examine the strengths and weaknesses of both candidates and more importantly their records and lack thereof. Right now you just seem like an extreme liberal who is eager to jump on the attack on a right-wing candidate with vastly different beliefs than you.

Well, since you're so into bashing Palin for her views, then shouldn't you be bashing Obama for his affiliations? Liberals like to downplay this shit, but it's a fact that Obama has been friends and served on a board for admitted terrorist, Willim Ayers. It's a fact that Obama called Reverand Wright his mentor, and we all know Wright is a race baiting anti-american nutjob. Fact! We also know that Obama has been friends with Louis Farrakhan, a racist man who said "Hitler was a great man". THese are not the only controversial people Obama has been friends with.

Now, liberals like to downplay facts, but like my parents always told me, "show me your friends and I'll show you your future".

Obama either has the most fucked up judgement (bad quality for a commander-in-chief), or he's a complete fack, which is what I believe. Obama will say and do anything to get power. Remember, oh hopeful ones, he's a politician, too.

""So you are liberal and you think that makes you intelligent?"

I do not want her even close to the button."

Dude you are much more liberal hardened then I thought.

I am saying if there is a higher power our mortal definition of time does not apply.

If you have the ability to create worlds and time itself, then how long is a year in your perspective. If you can bat an eye and sprout a nebula, then how long did that take in your perspective.

Our knowledge of things is limited and always will be. I am not a bible thumper, but I do believe in God. I don't pray, I don't goto church, but something tells me this perfect little place we live is far from an accident.

I am saying that Science and Religion need not be mutually exclusive if we have truly open minds. Consider this, most ancient societies have a story about a worldwide flood. Why is it when the Bible mentions this it's a folklore? God says that man was fashioned out of clay, which doesn't sound like a far cry from a primordial ooze. The only differences seem to be time (but who's time?).

Why is it that people's beliefs in God bother you when they have an R in front of their name. The Clinton's are Christian. Again recognize the media is sensationalizing this situation on a higher caliber then your own "Jaffe-Gate".

Dave, I think you are a talented guy, and I really don't take any of this personally, and I hope that is mutual. I am a huge fan of your games. My other conservative friend :) and I used to play Twisted Metal 2 to death. I have a hard time putting down anything that has to do with God of War -- oh and by the way, give your some some fucking credit, GoW combat system is heads and shoulders better then Devil May Cry. You had a much better story hook too. In DMC I found myself not even giving a shit about the main character, much less have the ability to understand the convoluted storyline.

I think your views are a little whack job, and isn't it awesome we live in a place where we can still chat about this freely. Just because I don't agree with you 100% that is not going to disqualify you from deserving my money with your next game.

For crying out loud put out some fucking screen shots for the new Twisted Metal man. :)

I think it's a little silly to tell people who visit here that it's all going to be politics and right-wing-bashing and it's not going to be about games, and expect people are really going to be interested in that, other than the controversy, something that Kotaku obviously preys on.

I think we kind of get that when blog entries are dedicated to basically hating on republicans. The whole point of people coming here is because you, Dave, is a game developer and some of us happen to like the games you have made, we don't really know you personally, and I'm not sure some of us really want to.

When you start broadcasting your political views, you know what? You're going to be popular with some people and not very popular with others who do believe in god and the military and the american flag, you know, people who aren't as liberal-minded as you. And sometimes, when you in a way serve as a brand for your games whether you like it or not, it could end up hurting what you're working on.

Going around calling a vp candidate who's also a MOTHER OF FIVE a milf, whether it's true or not, is a tad vulger and it does reflect badly on you and the studio you work at, because you ARE the public face of Eat Sleep Play. Your blog gets you a lot of attention but it can also be a double-edged sword, sometimes it's good to show a little class.
something tells me this perfect little place we live is far from an accident.
1. This place is not perfect.
    2. You do not understand statistics, the Earth is perfect for our existence because we are here, if it wasn't perfect for that then we wouldn't be here. That we could have existed on one of 100 billion billion planets and this is the one we happen to does not to me scream design.
    3. Science explains quite adequately how we came to exist, it is your choice to ignore it completely and delude yourself. I can see from all the other rubbish you are spouting that you have been reading the same propagandist BS that I have seen countless times before. Belief in god is faith precisely because it's unscientific so don't bother arguing with Jaffe, who seems to at least appreciate Science as humanities best way of evaluating ideas and progressing.
    4. It's not an accident, it's the result of nearly 14 billion years of evolution which is inevitable. 93% of the most intelligent scientists are atheists, these are the smartest people in the world, what exactly makes you so smart as to know better than them? I realise that's not a logical argument against god, it's not trying to be, just curious as to why you think time and time again the most intelligent people see the world in a different way from you? Here's another interesting correlation for you - the highest IQ countries on record are Japan (105), South Korea (106) and Italy (102). The lowest are Senegal (64), Nigeria (67) and Angola (69). A study on the religiosity of those countries (the percentage of people that say religion is important to them) gives Japan 12, South Korea 25 and Italy 27. Senegal Nigeria and Angola are 97,92,80. That's a pretty clear cut correlation. The only significant outlier in the whole world is the USA, with IQ 98 Religiosity 59. The reason imo is that religion is mostly attractive to the poor and uneducated because they're desperate for hope.
Why is it that people's beliefs in God bother you when they have an R in front of their name. The Clinton's are Christian. Again recognize the media is sensationalizing this situation on a higher caliber then your own "Jaffe-Gate".
Hm, I wonder, could it be that they don't want to create a Christian nation? Bush said he didn't believe atheists count as citizens. Obama has said he wants freedom for everyone to have faith or no faith. Bush says god told him to start the war, as a non-Christian why would you support a war for a god you don't believe in? Why would you want the presidents decisions to be based upon a fundamentally deluded belief system? It's not even Christianity, it's some form of unique American religion where Jesus' actual words and ideas in the bible are mostly ignored because, lets face it, they're stupid and communistic and the country would collapse.

It's wrong to believe the truth lies in the middle between 2 opposing viewpoints. Obama is himself a centrist, if he was running for election in Sweden he'd practically be called a conservative. I'm a liberal and the things I dislike about him are that he isn't liberal enough, but you're not going to completely agree with a politician are you?

Why is abortion even an issue for politics? Why are people so willing to give politicians that power? Let doctors and patients and the medical community decide what treatments are best for themselves. Let the scientists decide what to teach in science class. Let the people decide what they want to do with their own bodies. Law should be there to protect people, not to control them under the made up values of an illogical belief system
not very popular with others who do believe in god and the military and the american flag, you know, people who aren't as liberal-minded as you.
How do you believe in the American flag?

    Arthur Schopenhauer
"Every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud, adopts as a last resource pride in the nation to which he belongs; he is ready and happy to defend all its faults and follies tooth and nail, thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority."

"Under god" is a recent addition to the pledge of allegiance, it was originally written by a reverend and he didn't think god should be in it. In god we trust was added to coins recently to distance america from communism. The flag does not represent a christian nation. The constitution doesn't mention christianity or god. The treaty of tripoli specifically says it is not a christian nation. It's a country that escaped the tyrannical rule of Europe to establish a eutopian style place with freedom of beliefs and ideas and prosperity. Jesus was a liberal, he was also a "community organiser" in a way. Pontius Pilate was the governor...

Jaffe seems to me not that liberal, he keeps saying how he "respects" conservatives and republicans. A true liberal could not say that, you can't respect people who constantly lie, and attack your beliefs. Palin's speech was full to the brim with lies, attacks and no actual substance on her own stances. She refuses to be interviewed. She's clearly not capable of proper reasoning.
Not sure why you think Palin can't lead the free world while Obama can when Palin has at least run a state as a government and Obama really hasn't run jack, if Palin can't lead the country, Obama isn't exactly remotely qualified.
Any idiot can run a state if they get elected, what good decisions did she make? All I see is bad ones and I'm so sick of your argument. Look at their record. If the head of Pepsi was resigning, who would you choose to replace him? The head of a local failing business or someone promising from high up in the Pepsi company?
The bible says don't have sex unless you are married- doesn't it?- and I want to push the ways of the Bible on everyone in the world....which to me sounds a hell of alot like what they are accusing alot of the radical Muslims are doing- which on the radical side, it seems they are
Actually the bible says not even to get married or have sex at all. "It is good for a man not to touch a woman...For I wish that all men were even as I myself [celibate]. (1 Cor. 7)" The bible would have the human species go extinct.
Now that the tables have turned Palin is being attacked for her experience.
Obama has never said that, and I believe experience isn't anywhere near as important as good judgement. I don't really see how experience can count when the two parties are so completely different. You either agree with their stances or you don't, how could you vote for someone who is so substantially different to you in their stances just for experience? They'll have plenty of experienced people to help them any time they want it, you don't run a country by yourself. We know what Obama stands for and he has a lot more experience than her. She fired most of her staff when she got elected, then hired an extremely loyal indebted group with little experience. She wanted to ban books from the public library and threatened to fire the librarian for refusing. That is her experience, Obama has proper American values regarding freedom. McCain hired Palin simply to get votes. She's ultra conservative and a woman and will just further highlight the argument about Obama's inexperience. I say the exact same thing about Obama's choice too. A VP "choice" is really undemocratic and it shows in the recent elections. But McCain has a real chance of dieing (more than 20% perhaps according to medical statistics) in office, and if she were president, wow that would be a disaster. McCain is at least partially intelligent.

Da_criminal - Don't stop speaking your opinion because a few ignorant morons don't know how to think rationally. It's best to just ignore people like this, because I have spent literally hundreds of hours arguing with them and never once have they conceded the argument, they just leave or change the subject.

(Referring to my earlier post above)

The moment you tried to stereotype millions of people into one group who "constantly lie, and attack your beliefs" you lost all credibility whether your are bright enough to realize it or not.

  52. ANONYMOUS:

There's nothing anti-science about believing in God. The world was created. You can believe in evolution too. Evolution is not creation.

Science does not explain, or try to explain, what caused the universe, or what caused life, it explains HOW the universe expanded and formed, and its laws, and the laws of its lifeforms. The end. I'm SICK of this stupid ass evolution / creationism debate. It is a false dichotomy. Always was! For instance, in my copy of the Soncino Edition of the Pentateuch and Haftorah's, page 194 says,

"there is nothing inherently un-Jewish in the evolutionary conception of the origin and growth of forms of existence from the simple to the complex, and from the lowest to the highest. The Biblical account itself gives expression to the same general truth of gradual ascent from amorphous chaos to order, from inorganic to organic, from lifeless matter to vegetable, animal and man; insisting, however, that each stage is no product of chance, but is an act of Divine will, realizing the Divine purpose, and receiving the seal of the Divine approval. Such, likewise, is in effect the evolutionary position. Behind the orderly development of the universe there must be a Cause, at once controlling and permeating the process."

I would go one step further to say that once God had set up the laws, he did not even have to be there for the great act of universe-wide determinism, this great dominoes cause-and-effect chain, to carry itself out. Batta bing, batta bang!

    ----

Now as far as who becomes president, guess what! It doesn't matter! The president isn't all that powerful. He's not supposed to be! That's why he's called "the president," rather than, say, the great ruler, or the king, or the emperor, or the fuhrer, or something like that. He's not a czar. He's a president. We try, in this day and age, to make the president into something much more than he really is. We try to put so much blame on him. Unfortunately, it is true that he now has much more power than he had in the past or was ever meant to and can in fact exercise powers of dictatorship. But it was a long time in coming. It goes back even before Jimmy Carter.

  56. David, Don't let this political stuff confuse you. In the end it comes down to opinion and how someone wants to see reality. It's inevitably futile to ponder which "facts" are right or wrong. There will always be spin on information. Read the "facts" and decide for yourself (which you clearly do). I have republican friends that refuse to see reality because they are more comfortable with the reality they make (or get shown via propaganda), no matter what "facts" you show them it goes on deaf ears cus there's a programmed defense to refute and rebuttal the statement. Even if their rebuttal doesn't make sense they just reinforce their beliefs and empower themselves (same can be said with democrats). I love discussing politics but I've learned to never take anything anyone says personally when it comes to politics as it usually turns into a dwindled down biased war, from both sides. Also I've learned it's best to discuss politics with like-minded people as you can actually come out with something useful rather then a pissing contest. It's sad but it's true, society enjoys pissing on each other rather than actually trying to learn or listen. Furthermore, how often do us liberals get pissed on and get called "pussies" for trying to solve things diplomatically. Diplomacy is seen as weak because you don't go "guns a blazing". It all comes to marketing and imaging, Politics is a business and building a strong image is success. Politics is for everyone, even the ignorant. Thomas Jefferson said it great when he said "A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine." Stay proud, stay strong, and don't let this crap get to you. And no, you're not sexist, society is ultra politically correct. I've tried to be as PC as possible and I'm done. When females get offended with the word "chick" it's come to the point of ridiculousness. "Fat Princess" is another example. When it comes to life you can't please everyone so fuck it.

  57. I skimmed through a couple of these comments, and it seems like most(most = estimate don't sue me) people are upset that David mentioned he wanted to fuck a MILF, which just happens to be the VP. She's attractive whats wrong with that? Has sex in America become so taboo that no male or female should express desires for another? Are we so closeted about the ideas of sex we should keep it to ourselves? There's no backbone in society, parents yell at the government to raise their kids, we look at our media to saturate our lives and tell us what we should do and yadda yadda. Responsibility is thrown to the next person and not on ourselves. People need to take life easy and not have their heads up their own ass. It's easy to solve a problem when you ignore it and it's responsibility. Speak freely David, it's your right and your privilege. And as for weed. Do people not realize that almost every great musician smoked it? Artists and poets probably too. If it weren't for weed we wouldn't have greats rock legends and even rappers do it! Would people seriously stop listening to music or complain to their musicians if the found out they did weed? Probably not, which is where the double standard comes in. The key to using weed is RESPONSIBILITY, much like David reinforced!

But where in the hell do you get your notions about politics and religion? I, like you no doubt, am a secular humanist, politically independent and all that groovy sh*t. However, you seem to base your opinions on skant evidence, much of it with a liberal -go blue team!- bias. Our nation's problems (and indeed planet earth's) are vastly more complex than the tone of your political rhetoric suggests. I hope to hell you get where I'm coming from or give damn, 'cause I'm only writing this for your benefit. Religion, politics and such are not things that twist our junk. Sure if some extremists tried to have a foothold in our country we would fight for the freedoms we have. But in my opinion, not knowing everything there is to know about USA and your political system, we in Scandinavia, and the rest of the Europe seem more understanding than you. It might be just the point of view, I understand that, I have heard that Americans have the same view on us. But all in all, the western culture is all about freedom, the freedom of speech and no matter how wily anyone's ideas are, he has the right for it. So I guess all I'm saying is give some respect to your fellow man, what ever he or she might say or do. If it's not your cup of tee, just let it be and move somewhere where you feel more comfortable. That is all.

  67. I love when people blow things out of proportion. :) Jaffe said something that 90% of guys agree with but like to deny :) How narrow minded are you people? There is nothing wrong with saying what you think.

  68. I feel really sorry for David too. Each time when he talks he thinks he is talking to adults and greatly overestimates his audience.

Lets be realistic here. Most adults don't go around telling each other or announcing to the public who they'd want to sleep with. Further, you try that at work and you get canned for sexual harassment. It is not considered the adult thing to do.

I refuse to believe for ten seconds Dave didn't know that kind of thing would incite anybody. He'd have to be too naive. Whether it's cool to say, well, I'm not gonna debate that one, but he knows why it got attention. No one is attacking his freedom of speech. Of course you have freedom of speech, but language exists because it produces results and sometimes the results are some people want you to shutup.

  71. I'm super anti-abortion and anti-war. As soon as the egg fertilizes I say leave it. That's a potential human being, that can't stand up for itself. Its insanely selfish to deny a life. If so, just give it up for adoption. If you can't take care of it, seek financial help. There are places. A freaking' church would help you if you asked. People should just accept their mistakes. As soon as you have sex you should know that there is a possibility of a baby happening.

As for anti-war, I'm totally against violence [but I love it in a game; fucked up right?]. The fact that conflicts lead to violence is insane. Some people just can't accept differences in other people. Greed of humankind is the root of all evil(not completely). I do believe that war preventing harm to innocent people is necessary. Genocides are fucked up and I'm willing to fight over that. Anyway, that's what I think.

David- thank u for reading as well…

I'd be glad to cite 3 incorrect notions.

    1. This perception of national politics being so completely polarized. As though Democrats and Republicans are separate ideological camps rather than simply labels. Are we not one nation?

    2. Your defense of the MILF remark and how wrong they were to label your impression of her as nothing more than fuckable as sexist. (yes, David, we know it was just an expression, that you were merely making a point of how uninteresting she is) But it WAS sexist, as well as politically incorrect and you know it. A casual, quick apology was all that was needed in response.

    3. That we are all pawns and 'who the fuck knows'. Likewise your perceived lack of reliable information in the media.

2 more things, if I may:

IMO the most intelligent people are moderates, not liberals. They make up their mind on an issue by issue basis, regardless of which party it may line up with.

I agree with you that politics is not your bag and that you should focus your rants and raves on the game industry and such.

Exciting times we're livin' in, huh?

  74. If experience is the issue that's really concerning anyone with who they will vote for, chew on this for a second:
George W was Governor of Texas before going into the White House. Can we really look with confidence at the last eight years, and say that his prior experience made a positive difference in how he ran the country?

  75. ya know im a really conservative guy, and i don't agree with your political views, but what people are doing to you is just ridiculous. there are alot of faceless cowards who just want to try and destroy people out there, be it people who make up rumors about palin or who try and destroy you. i enjoy your blog, and keep at it, to hell with all of the gutter snipes who want to try and impune you. if people are offended by what you say, that is their problem, they should just turn it off. no sense trying and destroying someone cause they dont agree with you. have a spiffy day :D

I don't know I personally think that man can't really successfully rule man its pretty hard when there has been so many lies. Sometimes good intentions and experience and attractiveness cant be enough i think there should be another way not to mention that the popular vote doesnt even really matter its all up to the electoral college.
