"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."
Wow...pretty much sums it all up for me! So glad I saw this quote this morning.
Good day, ya'll!
David
don't you love it when you find something nice like that first thing in the morning?
ReplyDeleteNice quote. Gotta tell that to a friend of mine who's ... yeah well living the life of someone else.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing David.
God that really cheered me up after a terrible dream about college admissions and all this stressful (from my pov) shit.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting that up David...it really brought my optimism level up by like 10x.
Sounds good to me... I decided to use something like that, stewing over preparing for my interview and stuff earlier.
ReplyDeletePretty much sums up why I'm trying to break into the gaming industry instead of getting a standard trade job or whatever.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure SOMEONE was going to bring this up, but doesn't anyone else find this ironic coming from Mr. Jobs? I mean, I'm not saying that just because of his affiliation with his company doesn't mean that shapes or determines his personal views at all, but a company that sputters out the same thing every (what, month?) and slaps an "i" in front of it, while pumping out ad after ad with the underlying message that you cannot live without this product, or at least in some generic, conformable way, somewaht discredits this quote in my eyes.
ReplyDeleteNow I know his products are successful because, well, they're GOOD products. But it seems like everyone I see on the bus or walking around town/campus has an ipod, iphone, iwhatever. And yet, he's saying that you shouldn't waste your life living someone else's.
I'm being critical here, but just a thought.
I so don't agree. I think APPLE is one of the best companies on the planet. I think the products they make- hardware and software- are fantastic products that make people fall in love with the ease of use but massive functionality of the mac, the ipod, the iphone, the OS in mac, etc.
ReplyDeleteJust because they have become so successful doesn't mean they are generic. In the case of Apple it means the work they did was so successful that the world conformed to the vision of that company.
pretty good explanation Jaffe. Does'nt sound fanboyish at all. Great quote too.
ReplyDeleteIt's true that Apple ensures that their hardware doesn't screw up (for quite some time, mind you,) but I do feel that the underlying message with the iPod line is the whole "Buy it, or you're not cool" bandwagon shit.
ReplyDeleteIt most definitely is ironic, but not because of how adaMAntium explained it. Apple makes good products that have been fairly innovative (at least in implementation), but they've been mostly closed systems. They seem to have gotten a bit better in the last couple years, but the customization they offer is still short of their competitors for the most part. And yes, I am equating Apple to Steve Jobs because everything at the company was made from his vision. It's a great quote, but here's another one of my favorites: "Practice what you preach".
ReplyDeleteThat's a really awesome quote that you found there David, thanks for sharing it!!!
ReplyDeleteI know it was a far stretch to make in the first place but I was going more along the lines of a Nazi telling us that we need to embrace everyone equally. Perhaps a little strong, but you catch my drift.
ReplyDeleteYou should watch the whole speech. It was absolutely mindblowing. It's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UF8uR6Z6KLc
ReplyDeleteif you're interested.
It's about respecting the will of others... And believing in your own.
ReplyDelete(Big Boss at the end of MGS4)
Pretty much sums it all up even better for me.
I was a little disappointed when i heard David saying that MGS is a cheesy story for him, as I definitely do not see it that way...
Anyway, great words from Mr. Jobs!
