****UPDATE: Thanks tons to lb003g0676 over on my youtube channel for providing me with a new, cool, kick ass banner! I love it!
*******************
ps. TO THE TWO JACKET WINNERS- please comment on this post your email ONE MORE TIME? I am so sorry I've just been so swamped...gonna get those out this week I promise but I need your addresses and need your email so we can get your addresses from you....thanks for your understanding. David
Dave, go sit on your couch, turn on the PS3, and relax. Goosfraba man, goosfraba.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I love changing the status on my IM to just say, "sorry, can't talk right now..." I'm sure people could understand "Sorry, posting a vid blog," am I right?
ReplyDeleteAnywho, it's good to hear from ya again...
What about Darren Aronofsky?
ReplyDeleteHis movies are truly unique and amazing. They really make you think after watching them.
Dude, stop drinking diet sodas...
ReplyDeleteI prefer my genius game developers brain-cancer-free.
lol, the post made me smile :P good to see games designers are human!
ReplyDeletealso with your intro, didnt you say that your dad was going to post a video blog? (vlog?) that would be funny for him to say "hey guys its me..." :P
keep up the good work!
that was the best laugh ive had all week dude....i mean i know that it wasnt THAT funny
ReplyDeletebut IM's are hilarious in that they always come up when you really dont want them to
anyways you can always remove the soundclip so that all that you get is the blinking light on the window when someone messages you...unless you like the soundclip that is
*enter sarcastic internet fanboy rant* HOLY SHIT!!!! DID YOU HERE?!?!?! DAVID TAKES HIS KIDS FOR HOT CHOCOLATE!!!! */end*
thats sure to make front page on kotaku
.....dude that was cool. As far as directors go I think your'e right...But then what about Peter Jackson? His style is really romantic... What about M. Night Shymalan (if thats how you spell it) His stuff seems really raw, gritty, and bizare to me anyways..
ReplyDeleteWell thats all that stands out for me... Another question why is everyone always beating down on George Lucas? As far as Starwars goes I think its that whole "Creator to Fan" thing you were talking about a while back...
Maybe you need to Feng Shui your living quarters. Any way again my email is prolatrevol@gmail.com.
ReplyDeleteHey David. Ramble, it's why we're here haha! You're famed within the industry for being vocal and creative, so let us here what your mind creates xD! Funny blog entry by the way, loved how your IM kept interrupting you haha. One question, when can we expect an announcement regarding what your new game is all about?
ReplyDeleteRelax my dude. We love your ramblings. The longer you ramble, the more time I pass smoothly through my workday.
ReplyDeleteInteresting topic about Directors. I was watching "The Good, the Bad, and The Ugly", the Leone flick, and I was discussing with friends how they sure don't make em' like that anymore.
Question though - there's plenty of hype behind killzone 2. It looks amazing. The technology inside(lighting, hit reaction) looks to be a great addition to the genre. Many people, however, complain that it does nothing "new" to the genre. Do you think certain genres are running out of room to grow? An example would be the 2d platformer....it seems anything that CAN be done in a platformer has been done.
I like your rambles, but I think that was a record. Please bring some of those trains of thoughts into the station lol.
ReplyDeleteAnd start drinking decaf.^^
yeah i saw the post yesterday it was pretty funny, it was like did he just say what i think he said, but yeah, u should not mix diet coke and coffee david at least not that early.
ReplyDeleteYou should try making a video blog that's all about rambling, then maybe you will you will accidentally go off-topic and stick to a single subject. :D
ReplyDeletePERFECT post man... that is why i stop by your blog and watch your posts.
ReplyDeleteIf I want an over produced behind the scenes crappy video... i will goto gametrailers.com.
I prefer your honest "here is what I'm thinking" video... so thanks!
Cheers,
New banner looks good ;)
ReplyDeleteDAMMIT! I missed yesterdays. :( That IM thing was quite funny. :)
ReplyDeleteThe odd ramble posts always seem to be the most fun to watch
One might have said the same in the 90's about directors. Then when you look back now you see quite a few nobody's coming into their own even up until today. People like Gus Van Sant, The Pixar crew, Danny Boyle, David Fincher, Peter Jackson, Paul Thomas Anderson, Guillermo Del Toro, Christopher Nolan. The guys we see today we can only guess if they will be big in the future. Is it JJ Abrahms? Tom Tykwer? Darren Aronofsky? Alfonso Cuarón? Joe Wright? Zack Snyder? Hell even Ben Affleck is looking good. At this point though it seems to be all down to the writing. TV Writers seem to be crossing over into film and overall I would say TV since 2001 has been more interesting than film.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. I see no unique or strong creative vision in film anymore, which partially why I don't like most movies nowadays.
ReplyDeleteNice post, Mr.Jaffe.
p.s. if you ever want to stop by the TechAndGames podcast feel free to email me at MrDaBucket@techandgames.com
Damn missed his video post that he took down and I pretty much check this site everyday too :(. Doesn't help him mentioning it in this one video haha! Someone quick recap of his last vid gogogo!
ReplyDeleteLove watching/reading this blog btw and I don't mind the rambling it's all part of what makes this blog great and it's nice to see people's views and ideas regardless if it's on topic or not.
...Strange post, Jaffe.
ReplyDeleteI laughed at the cocoa thing, though. That's great.
Does anyone know the name of the clip that david jaffe took down ?.
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of dumb of me asking it here..lol
I deleted it off YOUTUBE as well, so I dunno where you would find it.
ReplyDeleteDavid
Looks like you need a beer.....or 2.
ReplyDeleteI saw that video Jaffe ;), lol.
ReplyDeleteJaffe!!! What could you possibly (not) say to your biggest fans. Huh?
ReplyDeleteEven though you really didn't say much, it made me laugh. Just the fact that you say whatever.
ReplyDeleteReally like the banner also.
P.S. Are you getting Killzone 2?? If you are, you need to give me your PSN so I can whoop some Jaffe ass. LOL.
Am I getting Killzone...FUCK YEA I'm getting Killzone! :)
ReplyDeleteYou posted before about getting free games, do you get new releases for free?
ReplyDeleteSometimes I do, sometimes I don't Depends if I know folks at other companies who send me stuff. I can usually get freebies from Sony and Kojima Productions has me on a very nice comp list and I always get a little signed note from Kojima himself which rocks my day.
ReplyDeleteBut most games we buy and I charge them back to our studio for research.
I buy a game- at least one- with my own cash once/month to remind myself what if feels like. Sounds kinda dumb but it keeps you grounded in the space of a gamer (and keeps you working hard for customers) when you go in and spend 60 bucks on a game and get it home and hate it.
David
lol wow, a signed note from Kojima? get me on that list!
ReplyDeleteOff topic question Dave...
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if you've still been able to keep up with your decision to go vegetarian? I only ask because I too had been on the fence regarding that very issue for a while and your decision to go for it inspired me to do the same.
hmmm...the new banner's alright...
ReplyDeleteI think you should've had a contest to see who could design the best one.
Wow for Hideo Kojima to send you a note means he thinks highly of you... As do we all. For me though I think you both are of the same calibur. I can't wait to see what the future holds for you Dave.
ReplyDeleteAnyone wants to design a banner, please do so. I love it when you guys make the banners as I have no art skillz at all. I will just swap them out every few weeks.
ReplyDeleteThat said: I really do dig this new one :)
Dave,
ReplyDeleteIf people lived in the moment and could embelish on their own original ideas then we would see a world with greater diversity.
It takes a visionary to see what's not in front of you and often "reality will far outrun the greatest imaginations"
So having a great imagination isn't going to make a person some amazing director or game designer.
Living in the reality of being a "creative" director or designer and having an understanding of the history of the business as well as the current trends in movie making or gaming will give them a better aim but they still must take a leap, in their minds, to get their hands on the treasure(that original idea that is far before its time).
This same crap is happening in the game industry and it's being done intentionally. I think certain powers are attempting to hurt the industry since it surpassed the movie business(Conspiracy theory or not ... I've been gaming for 30 years and I definitely see some crap happening that I'm not too happy with right at the moment).
Say for instance ... movie games. When was the last time you played a movie game that followed the movie and was still a great game. I can only think of one really great game that rocked for its time and that was Goldeneye for N64(there has been plenty of sub-standard trash that's not even worthy to mention in your blog).
It's funny that even when a studio is given the whole plot(saving the studio time of having to create a game story) and the game is made that these "movie" games come out stinking.
I know there are a few that were still alright but my point is that millions of dollars are being spent by the studios making this trash and millions of dollars are being spent by consumers buying this trash. Which in turn usually sours the consumer and makes them more weary of purchasing another game.
I really hope with the way the economy is headed that studios start to use their "brains" and cut their losses by trimming the fat by cutting the crap movies and games.
My point with all of MY ramblings is that you probably would have done a great job in the movie industry but I'm glad that you, at least, ended up in the video game industry.
Maybe we should both sit down and have a ramble fest sometime while sipping on carbonated beverages that will promote brain-cancer.
Oh, yeah and if Sony decides to make a God Of War movie ... I hope you get the job and show USC how it's done.
Cheers!
its the blog post about nothing!!!
ReplyDelete*randomly IMs Dave*
Have you played any of the demo for Resident Evil 5? I'd like to know what your thoughts on the game / series are at this point...
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing wrong with longer posts!
ReplyDeleteHey you never told us if you finished MGS4??
ReplyDeleteGood question above! MGS4.... Whats the deal? You finish it yet? EPIC!!!
ReplyDeleteChrist Jaffe! We aren't expecting Shakespeare here but what the hell was that? Hahaha
ReplyDeleteI would love to hear what you have to say about movies and directors. Maybe u should get your shit together and try again.
just relax man no one is perfect and everyone rambles sometimes
ReplyDeletelol this is one of my favorite blogs of all time. David, don't feel like we are all wasting our time because I really enjoyed this.
ReplyDeleteand about the whole movie thing.your not that old why don't you try to get back in it.now you have a name for yourself.and i'm sure alot of gamers and all your fans would go see it.you should make a game based movie.who better than a game developer you could make it cool.not some cheesy hollywood knock off.
ReplyDeleteYou're a funny guy to listen to. But I say feel free to just ramble, in fact I have done a few rambling posts in my gaming blog.
ReplyDeleteps.. Kick ass banner! They did a great job.
These are my favorite!! More!!!
ReplyDeleteRamble on David. Ramble on. We love it.
ReplyDeletemy email is Delriach@gmail.com
ReplyDelete:) can't wait for the jacket.
Well Dave I'm currently trying to become that next big director the way you dreamed to! I dream of going to USC someday and I wish those douche bag administration guys would have let you in, but hey it was fate for you to be where you are now! I'm sure they are regretting turning you down. lol.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I watch every blog you post on here and I enjoy every single one! Your epic vision is one of the many inspirations for me and I greatly appreciate your enthusiasm for film like me. Can't wait for the next post man!
Heh. Now after watching this video I realise what makes people like you(David Jaffe), & Mr. Koijima fantastic Video game developers. You simply have a creative mind & hell yeah you wouldn't be here today if you weren't a straight up, "I say what comes out of my head, this is what I believe, I win you're wrong"I kinda guy, lol. Everyone should be this way. Don't take crap from anybody, this is me love it or kiss my ass type of person. Dude developers like you are the Albert Einstein's or this industry. Psycho is the new smart. Wild minds FTW?
ReplyDeleteOMG CHRIS PENN!!! HE'S STILL ALIVE!!
ReplyDeleteI could totally see you as a director, i mean the cinematic tenancies of god of war kinda give it away. But i do agree with you regarding a lot of young american directors emulating Spielberg or Lucas (more than half of the people studying film are there today because they saw star wars as a kid, even me). I think we need more director conscious of the critic or academic side of film (like Godard back in the day) . I mean thats something that I hope I can bring to the table in a few years here when I start to put myself out in that world
ReplyDeleteaww mgs4 isnt in ur games played list anymore, i wanna see whats ur conclusion about the game?
ReplyDeletewas the ending as epic as u wanted it to be?
or let down, still awesome game?
movie this weekend? I guess it depends what you're in the mood for. kidfriendly fantasy or a mean thriller.
ReplyDeleteheard Inkheart is kinda "meh" but hearing Taken is actually a badass little thriller.
I hear good things about Taken
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you about The Mummy 3, it's cheesy but it knows it's cheesy. And don't feel bad about walking out in the theatre, I did as well. I think Inkheart looks interesting, that's the movie I would go with.
ReplyDeletehi david. Names Nick. just wanted to say, love ya work mate. i check your video diaries regularly. waiting patiently for you to announce your next big project haha. i have faith that it will kick arse no matter what genre of game.(anyone) add me on PSN: cutyourthroat69. if you ever get the time, i'd be glad to kick your fucken arse in a game of resistance 2 or something haha. (p.s- i just realised, that totally sounded like a typical message from a jaffe fan haha)
ReplyDeleteComedy gold, man. Seriously. And for the record, in my book: ramble from you specifically = very good. :D
ReplyDeleteCheers.
Hello Mr. Jaffe Sr. My name is Márcio Porto from Brazil and, if its possible, i need send a personal e-mail for ask a question. But i dont know your e-mail. Its a serius question. Thank you very mutch!
ReplyDeletewelcome back david good luck on your next game cannt wait for it..........................
ReplyDeleteI love watching your videos. It's hilarious when you got distracted by other things like IM and phone calls.
ReplyDeleteDammit Jaffe. Every time, you start talking and then you're like "no, I'm rambling, gotta stop." I don't think anyone who reads this cares that you're rambling, just finish your thoughts, we read this because we want them, not because we think you're not insipid.
ReplyDeleteI work in a nursery school man, so i totaly know what you mean when it comes to always getting sick.....
