SAH-WEET!

So some thoughts on this:

#1- Ok, the animation is way too cartoony for my tastes...if the visual style matched the cartoony CLONE WARS style, it would make great sense. But the art direction looks realistic while Indy animates all cartoony. Interesting choice, but based ONLY off my viewing this trailer a few times, I wish they would have committed to one direction or the other.

#2- Don't really care about it being canned for PS3 or 360. I have a Wii and I like my Wii and hey, if you are doing whipping action, better to use the Wi-mote, you know?

#3- The Indy franchise seems a bit slippery to get a strong handle on, you know? I mean, little kids of today are not Indy nuts (as the poor toy sales from Crystal Skull proves) so is Wii the best place for this game? I mean, dads and moms have the Wii too so maybe it's a smart choice; make something that connects with the moms and dads in the Wii crowd, something that connects with their generation. And the thing is, Indy- as a brand itself- has never been as popular as the kind of stuff that connects head on with the 360 and PS3 core audience...so perhaps it's a pretty wise move.

Either way- I AM SO STOKED! I LOVE Indy and will play ANY Indy game there is. I played Emperor's Tomb on my XBOX and while it was very rough around the edges, I still really dug it. So yeah, I'm really jazzed about this.

Love the way the trailer is put together with the whole transition gimmick. Love the variety of locations as well.

Totally jazzed. Be there on day 1. Thanks Lucasarts for keeping my boyhood hero alive and kicking!

David

The trailer reminded me of that animated coke commercial you always see when you go to the theatres. I'll get the game if its on psp lol.

i swear i saw a PS logo at end of the trailer.

  4. That sucks because all the work on the PS3 and 360 was for shit now. We all know it would sell better on the PS3 and 360. There are a lot of Wiis that were bought but few Wii games. Not a wise choice in my opinion. Perhaps Nintendo made a deal? But what was with the Playstation Logo at the end?

  5. I understand it IS coming out on Playstation but either PS2 or PSP or BOTH...but NOT PS3.

    Fucking idiot...

"Ok, the animation is way too cartoony for my tastes."

    ....It's CGI

For a game developer, you're one of the most moronic people I've ever seen.

Animation is animation. He knows it's CGI. Who wouldn't? It is CGI. It is a trailer. A trailer for a game. This trailer has a style. The style of animation is cartoony. Dave doesn't like that. He even made a comparison to clone wars which is CGI.

For a troll on David Jaffe's blog, you're one of the most moronic people...oh wait.

I'm sorry, but no Harrison Ford equals no sale.

  9. B...I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt for a moment. Perhaps you didn't write what you were trying to express in the correct way?

Just because it's CG means what? That it can't have animation? Be it real time or pre-rendered CG, it still has animation and that animation has a style- which I assume is reflective of the final, real time product- that doesn't sit well with me given the way it- to me- conflicts with the realistic art style.

What am I missing? If I'm going to be insulted by you, I would appreciate at least understanding the nature of your insult.

Unless you are simply a fucking moron who tried to slam me and ended up looking like a stupid motherfucker.

    Thoughts?

sucks its not coming to ps3.The early sneak peaks I saw looked pretty good. And I do see what your saying about the cartoon look of it.Do you think its because of the wii hardware they couldnt get a more real look to it.but i can never get to excited about games based on movies.it seems that most movie games suck.they are either very casual or just crap.that sucks because there are some great stories games could get from movies.like the new lord of the rings is a let down.that game should have been sweet.i would love to see a braveheart game done well that would be cool.or maybe the notebook oh yeah.

its bullshit. I don't think lucasarts could deliver wait they said they could as far as graphics on the 360/PS3 so they fuck it throw it on the wii.

big indy fan but disappointed by this news.

  15. Fairly certain this will suck I'm afraid, as with the majority of Lucas Arts output. Would loved to be proved wrong. Doesn't matter anyway as I don't have a Wii and don't want one.

Oh and I played Emperors Tomb on PC and I agree with David, it was pretty good.

pretty cool...hope it turns out to be a 7.6 at least or something like that. If it was an 8/10 - that'd be fantastic for an INDY game. I wish the best for it.

Exclusive marketing on Wii, but available on all 4 systems.

Wasn't there supposed to be a Indiana Jones game coming out for the 360 that had Euphoria engine implemented in it? I remember seeing the tech demos for it and thought it looked decent.

Maybe if the developers of this Wii title had licensed the Euphoria technology, the animation in this wouldn't be so hammy and canned.

This will just not end well.

The trailer looks great, but the Wii will have to dumb down the graphics to an embarrasing level.

Too bad. Ah well, we still have Uncharted! :D
    Next best thing.

Oh fuck i was full excite this game coming to wii now its been canned fuck the graphics are great looks kinda like uncharted...oh well i guess ill just get uncharted 2 and many other great games i think u know what games the are jaffe no its not God of War 3 :P nar kidding i cant wait to get my hands on that baby i will finish it over 10-15times maybe 20-50times maybeeeee 100-200times because that's how much i support you and your pressies game GOW3 :D

seriously David, you should not even answer to a jackass like B...

on topic : it was a cool trailer, too bad the game won't come to the PS360. But there are already so many great games in 2009 that I should probably thank the publisher for making that choice for me.

It has "Playstation" at the end of the trailer, why are you saying not coming to PS3 does that mean it's coming to PSP?

  25. I can live with the cartoony animations, but the voice... ugh. indy and the fate of atlantis had a quite different voice too, but it wasn't as disturbingly macho as it was in the trailer...

Yo jaffe what do you think of this idea? Its about integrating the psp into ps3 games. Sounds pretty 1337 to me.

  33. Lucas Arts has been cutting back since early 2008. Probably the only reason it's only on the less-graphical intense systems is to cut the cost for development, not because they didn't think it would sell well.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ugh if this was a 360 or PS3 game it would be sweet with those graphics, but now with it being a Wii game I somehow think it's not going to look anything like that trailer, so the animation or anything might not even be reflective of the final game.

    ReplyDelete
  35. That's neat. The trailer looked like there was quite a bit of time put into it.

I love the art direction, but I kind of agree with ol' Dave on this one. It is a little cartoony in animation. But that's alright, as long as the game is good.

    Also -- Where's Harrison?!

I really like my Wii, and a lot can be done with the system. People saying Wii games are "ugly" are a little strange in their opinion. After all, visuals like that were what we playing not even 4 years ago. They sure weren't ugly then. And besides, Super Mario Galaxy not only look good by Wii standards, but looks good period.

And, again, WHERE'S HARRISON!?! His voice was a little...strange in the trailer. I didn't really like it much.

LOL, so many PS360 fanboys in here. At least wait till some gameplay footage is released before slamming it.

Oh wait, I forgot I was talking to graphics whores, nevermind.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Anonymous3:19 PM

well dave, lets hope the animation in the actual game does look better than that because it isn't very good as you pointed out, however, there isn't a single second of gameplay shown here, so who really cares?

    ReplyDelete
  38. eh,

Lucas Arts would have screwed it up anyways.

SW:FU was drek compared to what they promised. They practically made the same game 7 years ago in Jedi Knight II, but then proceeded to make it feel less action packed and more cartoon.

Don't even get me started at the colossal failure that was Fracture. Again, great ideas, horrible, horrible implementation.

Personally I don't have much faith in their dev studio. Heard they also had a major shake up, so if they keep it around hopefully that was for the better.

They got the ideas, and the epic IP's, just not the ability to make a game worth playing.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Anonymous7:19 AM

Sorry David - But I don't think this game is what you want it to be. Unless you like 2D games that is. That is all I can say....Don't get your hopes up is all im saying.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I fucking LOVE 2D games and a 2D Indy game that plays either like old LucasArts games OR even better an Indy Game that plays like FLASHBACK and/or OUT OF THIS WORLD and/or ABE'S ODYSSEY?!?!

    I AM THERE!

    Am I even close?!?

    ReplyDelete
  41. You like the Oddworld series, David? They're pretty awesome games.

I wouldn't mind an Indiana Jones game in 2D, I love 2D games. A lot of what I play is older 'retro' stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Anonymous10:47 AM

Oh good god. Sorry, Jaffe, but I think I'd rather play Uncharted. I'd trust Naughty Dog over Lucas any day, and, from my perspective, they aren't really treating the franchise well...at least, not in representing it with that trailer.

    But there you go.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hey David,

I personally hope that the PS3/360 version of this game hasn't been canned as I was really looking forward to playing it on my PS3, like you I enjoyed the Emporers Tomb on my PS2. It was a great game for it's time and once I played it and saw the upcoming PS3/360 version I knew I wanted to get that one too. If they are still making the PS3/360 version and are coming out with a Wii/PSP/PS2 version that has a whole different story to it I would be glad to purchase both versions, one on Wii & one on PS3.

I also agree with you on the cartoony style they decided to use isn't the best choice for an Indiana Jones game. I did notice one thing though and maybe it's just the CGI but when those pillars were falling in the tomb scene the angle they decided to use made me think that maybe this game will have some kind of destructible enviroment system in it, I know it wouldn't be as good as the PS3/360 version but it would still be a welcome addtion to the game.

Well here's to hoping the PS3 version hasn't been canned and if it has I guess I will end up getting it on the Wii.

  47. So much for all the hype generated for the PS3/360.

I don't think Lucasarts is getting the freedom of creativity they boasted they had when they came visiting to schools and doing talks.

Why else can the PS3/360 version , where lush environments and photo-realism style is the main component?

Yes, the playstation logo is still there. And LucasArt's latest statement on it was very vague:

"LucasArts remains absolutely committed to the Indiana Jones franchise. While we are aware that fans have been eagerly awaiting additional information on the upcoming game, they can rest assured that details are forthcoming."

    Which pretty much says nothing.
