My brother- who is celebrating his bday today- went to Davenport's Pizza in Mountain Brook Village tonite with much of the family. Wish we coulda been there...ah well, next time!
BUT check it- he just sent me these; pics from the pizza place:
They STILL got arcade games in there! And look! Thems are some OLD SCHOOL arcade games too! Donkey Kong!??! And what's this I see?!?! Is it?!?! IT IS!!! It's Phoenix! Man I loved that game- used to play it all the time at the bowling alley at Eastwdood mall...ah memories!
To younger readers you prob. don't get the big deal, do you? Ah well, was from another time...the arcades of the old days are dead and gone, have been for well over a decade...but GOD they used to be magical places. And this just brings it all back...so glad I got to grow up during that time...
So damn cool!

That's fuckin' cool. I go to an arcade downtown from time to time - It's pretty cool. The very back has a lineup of old school games. Pac Man and the like.
i'm really hungry for some pizza now. i'm playing POP atm, you were right about the the advertising for POP, the game is nowhere near as emotive. the prince also has this modern new age american way about him that is totally inappropriate for the time setting of the game and pulls you out of the experience, it almost makes me not like him.
Wow. Either those things never get played, or they have some really good maintenance people. We've got one "arcade" here in Alaska and it's just DDR and broken light gun games.
One day Imma gonna get me a house with a basement and build my own arcade, hand-made cabinet by cabinet. Starting with a "Kustom" version of my favorite series:

Argh Ubi Montreal used Nolan North for voice acting to imitate Nathan Drake, so that pisses me off.
I agree, the humour in Pop used to be it's own, now it's just Naughty Dogs.
Man, I miss those days. There's a great Pizza/Pasta place in Milwaukee that has a bunch of arcade games as well. It's still nothing like Shakey's Pizza back in the day. I used to spend hours there playing games like Tapper and Space Invaders.
didnt have a double dragon cab in there did they?
Haha, neat. Nowhere around here has arcade machines anymore, which sucks, I always enjoyed playing a lot of those games, even though I didn't actually grow up during that era.
The arcade machines look really neat in there, too.
Ah, the memories of skipping class just to go over to the mall and sink tons of quarters into Mortal Kombat II.....
dont stop rambling jaffe! thats what makes your blogs great!
they just knocked it down but we had a huge arcade here on long island it was called sports plus. had hundreds of arcade machines. some rides/rollercoasters, bowling alley, ice rink, and laser tag all in one building. we always had birthday parties there but they knocked it down recently. was really cool.
different sean the the guy above me.
This is bit off topic but, now that the new Killzone 2 videos have come out, can you tell us if the GOW3 footage you saw looked better or worse than Killzone ?
My father loves to ramble about how good Phoenix was! I've never actually seen one (and I've been to quite a few arcades), but dad says it was one of his favorites. Do you have a close-up pic of it? Dad would appreciate that =D
Not sure if you have seen it yet, but Eastwood Mall is GONE!!!! I was there yesterday and it was leveled for a Super Walmart and other stores. I found out that Eastwood was the oldest mall in Alabama before it was torn down. It is now a really nice area.
Sonuva!!! How much do I miss little whole in the wall arcades in mom and pop food joints?! I'm still shopping for me own Galaga or Afterburner game.
