CALLING ALL CARS- FIRST REVIEW IS UP!

Here's a link:

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/783/783536p1.html

But here's the gist:

8.5/10!

Very happy with this first review.

Swamped right now but will wright more about what it's like to get reviews, wait on reviews, get stressed and elated about reviews in a few days, when the other site reviews hit on Friday. But for know, three things:

1- Yah! 8.5 for a game that took 11 months and cost very little AND let us do the work we LOVE but still- for the MOST part- live normal lives (although some members of the team gave up SOOOO much time to get some aspects of the game working, so to them: THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!)....and the best part is, 9.99 for what IGN- at least- says is fun. How can you beat that? We're very happy!

2- Game is NOT OUT TOMORROW. It is out May 3rd. I am very sorry about this but we're still in format, chasing a few bugs and we don't want the game out until it's bug free. But it WILL be out 5/3! I will let you guys know when it clears format.

Ok guys, heading out to dinner with the family. Will talk to you guys soon. 8.5! Sweet!

David

ps. Please don't feed the fucking animals on the comment board. I am 1000% fine with them post the stuff they do (the insults and the bullshit,etc)...it's the net, what are you going to do. I sure as hell am not taking the comments off. And I know what it's like to want to get attention and be willing to say ANYTHING to get it (ya think?!?) but please unless you really feel compelled, just let them be. I like that they are here, I'm ok with them being here but I'd rather the comment section not turn into a battle. Let them do what they want and we can get back to just talking about games, the biz, etc. Thanks!

David

Nice work on the game - I can't wait for this semester to be over so I can get back to the 'ol PS3.

8.5, nice score! Congratulations.

Also, sorry about feeding the animals. I've pulled the original comment that started the bullshit and will refrain from replying to that sort of thing in your blog again.

Hey Congratulation to you and the team.

great score, it made me even more excited for the game. Do you think you'll make more maps for download in the future?

Joe Laurino are you a homosexual?
http://jl.hyperactiveproductions.net/images/bio.jpg well i guess i shouldnt ask since this pic off your own site speaks volumes. btw thanks for calling me a man i did make varsity this past season in both football and baseball in only my freshman year. im sure your 360/pc title will be the next gears of war. first of all pc games are the most pirated games on the market aside from the big boys like valve,id,epic, your shit company has no chance of making any revenue on the pc side of market so good luck. i dont think anyone will even want to waste their bandwith downloading your turd of a game. as far as the 360 goes ms is flooding the channels as everyone knows in a desperate attempt to pump up sales. there are alot of other better games out already available for the 360 your piece of shit game will just get lost in the shuffle. your shitty little studio cant compete with the marketing juggernauts that are out there. face it dumbass. youre nothing you will always be nothing. you look like one of little bitch emo kids that shop at hot topic give it up old man.

Sounds like a pretty good review

Congrats on the game! Looks to be a purchase, just wish the pre-paid cards were here (I hate leaving money on the table).

One question: What was Dark Guns? I would love to hear what that game was about.

Anonymous said...

Man, we got something here... Not trying to start anything but it's maybe the first must-have game for download out there, independent of the console.

Seeing the game, can't take away of my mind the old but always good Rock N' Roll Racing... Some kind of inspiration or just coincidence?

Hey Jaffe that not feeding the animals comment gave me an idea for a t-shirt. It's one your short, chubby ass should wear next time you hit the $3.99 buffet. I don't give a fuck how many payolas are distributed to these reviewers. They are all meaningless. I don't base my purchases on reviews. Other peoples opinions on games are as wortless as their lives to me. Besides, THIS IS NEXT FUCKING GEN JAFFE. GET IT THROUGH THAT THICK FUCKING SKULL OF YOURS. SMALL FUCKING GAMES LIKE THESE ARE NOT THE FUTURE. You must have given that Joe Larento guy some good dick, please Jaffe call me back if you don't wanna that's cool, just let me know so I can move on with my life. AHAHAHAHA. That's some funny ass shiat.

GREAT JOB DAVE!!!!!!!! I HONESTLY LIKE THESE "OLD SCHOOL" TYPE GAMES OVER THE EPIC GAMES. Ok, enough caps lock. I'm so sick of Epic games. WTF. Why do I miss the days of the Atari 8-bit and the commodore Amiga? Because that's when games were SIMPLE yet FUN!! Looks like CAC followed the same formula!!

I still say I can't get enough overheard shooters. The market isn't saturated at all. And yes, SUPERMAN on the PS1 was actually fun.

Anonymous said...

Awesome David! I am definitely buying this tomorrow.

Their biggest complaint seems to be the limited number of levels. Is there any possibility of you guys releasing more after a while?

Just curious.

Det. Conan said...

Well, i am pleased your game is reviewed well (any rate above 8.2 is always worth checking out).

i don't know if i am one of the funcking animals for replying on Mr. Pothead, but i am really sorry for that. Ur last post comments reminded me of University years when i used to say alot of shit and bad language just to attract attention.

and.. you still didn't answer my question regarding PS3, GOW2 and meeting Hideo Kojima.

I have watched your Bonus Round interview. It was cool. the Guy who was sitting beside you (to you right side) seemed very pleased and honored to be there with you on the same show.

One other question: what do you guys usually do when you go to the playboy mansion?

Det. Conan said...

One more thing, Dave.

I don't have an internet connection connected to my PS3. Now, can i download this game on a PC (an external hard-drive) and then download it into my PS3.

Or can i copy the game from another PS3 that already downloaded the game?

bdagosti said...

I don't like how a specific release date is given and can easily be delayed. Don't give a release date in the first place. Wish I had a job where not meeting a deadline was acceptable.

Jaff, i've been trying to send you a quick email, but don't know how to as of yet :S

I have been working on some cool stuff with the SIXAXIS, i have yet to get my hands on a goodie like a dev kit.

I basically have about 27 assorted mechanics worked out, they are pretty rad, and i think would REALLY GIVE YOU A JUMP START to do what your ass was meant to do, MAKE THINGS THAT INSPIRE AND STIMULATE OUR EVER DESENSITISED SELVES.

i love you dude, seriously, your work is my favorite, i HAD NO CLUE YOU WERE BEHIND TM 1 & 2!!!!

i used to put that PS DISC into my CD player and just jam on all the music tracks, it basically made me want to play guitar.

Way to go! Can't wait to see what you've got in the pipeline.

Sorry, but anyone who complains needs to get up and call those numbers on those cheesy G4 game design commercials. Whine all you want, but what are you making?

Anonymous said...

Congrats on the review Jaffe, you're quickly becoming a real sorta "do what makes ya happy" hero in this cut throat commercial world. Your focus on your family, throwing away that selfish desire to top one's own magnum opus again and again, I commend you sincerely and think the world might be a better place for it.

I am reminded of Miyazaki and his son, whose memories of his father exist only through his father's cartoons. Then the very public story of their estranged relationship comes out, and it's a rather sobering tale about such masters and their families. Bringing it back to gaming, even Will Wright is said to have family troubles. When the man who made the Sims can't keep his family life in the green...

I've said it might've been selfish of the director to try and out do their own magnum opus. It might be even more so selfish of us to expect you guys to give up the happiness that is important to you.

Everyone's got their own path to happiness, and for some that'll be outdoing themselves at every turn. I'm glad you, your team, and many other smaller time pioneers who came before, have shown that there are indeed other ways to success. It's hope in this fortune 500, dog eat dog, america's top model kind of world for those of us happy in the slow lane.

Damnit, I thought it was going to the masses today, anyways I look forward to you making more high quality games for the ps network, people are going to get used to you making smaller arcady kinda games. I mean I like flow, but it is too chill for me, mk2 is fun online but it is poorly put together in terms of the online features. From the review I read of CAC, it sounds to be alot of fun online and most of my friends on PSN is excited about it. I would like to break into this business one day~

Carlos M. said...

I'd be holding my breath until GameSpot reviews the game (If you're concerned about review scores). People say EGM is tough, but you don't see GameSpot giving out 10s on a yearly basis like EGM does.

At any rate, congrats! I can only imagine the stress of getting your game reviewed from dozens of different sources (and their respective reader reviewers). Heck, I was a stress machine when we gave people "on the outside" the chance to play the beta build of our game. I got my new high blood pressure to show for it. :-D

Anyway, I'm looking forward to playing CAC when it comes out.

Oh, and on the G4 game design commercials comment:

Hot Girl Producer: "Hey guys, I need you to design a new game."

Two "game designers" as they're playing their game: "Just a minute. We're tightening up the graphics on level 3."

Jaffe Congrats on your 8.5 score from IGN on Calling All Cars. I think IGN are probably the most accurate when it comes to reviews of Playstation games. But a 8.5 rating which is good itself for a PSN game should be seen as a 9.0-9.5 in the minds of gamers. I dont think reviewers really know how to rate or scale these PSN games yet because its so early in their life and not much to compare it to. So good score! I watched the video review and the game looked looks like a blast to play, especially the 4 player multiplayer aspect with that gameplay, it really looks like one of those "ok just one more round" games that end up turning into 20 more rounds. For $9.99 its a steal.

I have to tell you a story. Watching the review gave me the feeling I had about the original Twisted Metal. I cant count how many hours my cousins and I freakin spent on the DEMO of the game, the freakin demo was used and abused for weeks on a PS2 that I borrowed from a friend at school cause I couldnt afford one at the time.

Gutted you didnt get to make the Heartland game because of the way the Industry is set up, hopefully some day there is more freedom in the type of games developers can make, I think you would have brought in a more diverse audience and market with it. Nonetheless the fact that you had the ambition to make such a game, conscious gamers will always look forward to your games.

If you have any reply, even though none is needed my email is breakbreadinc@aol.com. Keep Truckin Cheers!

why is it,

that on a blog, the only time anyone writes to someone who isn't the blog-master, its nothing but blaming?

I mean, lets ber honest people,

we all have something in common, were here cuz jaffe obviously got us stoked on something, so why not address that.

i mean, here goes;

I for one, feel that this blog could be a source of a VERY productive dev/feedback/advising place.

not that you, david, exactly need out advice or anything: I personally do appreciate it if someone has an idea percolating that could help success of any kind.

Anyways, Congrats on CAC *you know that does come out as CACK, wich is very close to, well.... *

8.5 out of 10

Fuck man, all you motherfuckers licking Jaffe's pink, hairy asshole is making me sick. It's about time someone rips the veil from your delusional, fragile little eyes. SHIT! You dumbasses are no better than those idiots from the Heaven's Gate cult. Drink the Kool-Aid kids, Jaffe made it extra sweet! If this chubby motherfucker told you to buy a 4-bit Pac-Man remake he was involved in you morons would line up. Give me a fucking break. Quit jacking off Jaffe and make another good game motherfucker. You're not getting any younger. One day you are gonna look back and say FUCK! I should not have wasted my time making those little shit games.

dear david jaffe, blogger.com, mariojuana, jamaylott, avacado platypus, anonymous. i have been in contact with my lawyer and we are in the middle of preparing a lawsuit. my lawyer has already contacted blogger.com and demanded that all of the bloggers and david jaffe's ip's be handed over so that we can proceed with the lawsuit because i will not be harrased and assaulted in such a manner anymore. we are also suing cliffyb.com because he has been verbally assaluting our lord via email nonstop and i will say no more. his comments have been vulgar and his game gears of war must be banned. you and blogger will be hearing from my lawyer very soon this i promise i will put up with this abuse no more.

The Gamespot review is COMPLETE BULLCRAP. The reviewer talks about the game like its a $60 game. He says the visuals are not good but its 60fps/1080p, he says the single player is short, but its obviously a F****** multiplayer game and states that there should be more weapons and maps and thats why its not worth 10 bucks...

I just payed 10 bucks for an album on Itunes with only 6 tracks and it was well worth it.(Explosions in the Sky-All of the Sudden I Miss Everyone, in case you were wondering)

Anonymous said...

gamespot is like a 360 fanboy site. it microsoft doesnt own the game then forget about using that shit site. o and 1up gave it an 8/10 not bad

Carlos M. said...

God of War II received a 9.2 from GameSpot. Seems GameSpot also likes Sony. Oh, and WarioWare: Smooth Moves for the Wii received a 9.1. I guess they also like Nintendo...

At any rate, GameSpot gave Calling All Cars! a 6.7. Yup, they're tough, alright. Although, to be fair, from the preview text they mentioned "a lack of content" as a major reason for the score. Personally, I don't expect a content-rich game out of a casual game. It'd be nice, but a "casual game" is meant to be easy to pick up and play, and put down after a little bit. It's not meant to be a game that requires 20+ hours of play to unlock new stuff continually. At least that's how I see it.

I hate scores anyway. Reviews should be approached differently from the way they are now. Too bad people like numbers next to their reviews...

$10 bucks buys 2 hrs in a movie theatre. I don't think it's a bad price. Especially when casual games (ie: Diner Dash) sell for $20.

I love how people comment on the review score as if they've played the game, when in fact, it hasn't been released to the public. Bashing on Gamespot or praising 1UP - it just doesn't make sense to support or criticize a site's review until YOU, the game player, have played it for yourself.

Me, I don't have a PS3, but if I did I would buy this game because it sounds like a lot of fun, and I think that Jaffe is a good game designer, and I'm interested to see what the guy behind God of War has done as a follow-up project to that big puppy.
