David, about the baldness thing, I have been trying a combination of pills that have been successfully regrowing my hair. I had the same problem. The dreaded "Monk thing" going on.

I had a dermatologist and 2 hair cutteries tell me that I better say goodbye to the hair, but after months of research, I tried a mix of natural herbs that help, not only regrow, but also helped get stronger boners. NOT KIDDING. And this isn't an ad.

People will tell you it's stress, and although it is a key factor, DHT (dyehydrotestoterone(sp?)) which causes that particular case of baldness.

E-mail me dnunez AT ssd DOT com and I'll give you the remedy.

Also, if you thought 2 girls 1 cup was funny, click on my name and watch Duck Tales...

Davis thanks- I got no issues losing the hair tho. I don't want to work to keep it- I just wanna know when it's time to say goodbye and get the buzz cut :)

Thanks for the great advice tho!

Damn, I was going to give you the antidote for baldness in exchange to feature my Mustang in the next Twisted Metal...

Maybe that should be another contest idea, eh?

No?

Didn't think so...

(This is partially a joke of course.. but as I wrote this out, I thought, "damn that's a great idea". Click on my name for anybody interested in the car anyways.)

Anywho... Go for the bald or the buzzcut, just don't do the monk. It's hard to understand why anyone would keep that back part!

If you know it's happening and you don't care, I would say now is the time to get the buzz cut.

first: the guys at gamestop (to my knowledge) get no commission, only need to meet a min of "pre-orders" a week. Keeping on the gamestop subject, it's ridiculous what a monopoly they have over the current market. It wouldn't be a problem but employees are left untrained, and unknowledgable on many subjects leaving consumers in the dark, or even leaving the store with false information. Best Buy is even worst.

I digress. Turok (the demo) is a great experience. Sure it may not have innovative game types that you find in some of these blockbusters, but that's why i can count on it. I know that i am receiving a Turok game, with updated graphics. It still has the classic arcade feel with new AI. Not to mention the lush environments. I can't stress enough the lack of detail placed in the environments in new games. The draw distance is spectacular on current hardware, why not use it!

I saw 'Untraceable' this last weekend, DONT PAY MONEY TO SEE IT. It's crap. One thing that stood out was the lack of character development placed in the movie. An important factor that many games (and movies) forget to focus on. Why should I care if my character dies, what effects will it have on my experience?

The monk hair should not be a problem, until the "o" connects to the 'M' on the front of the head. So in other words, the O and M become a U.

Until next time

Still ready for that Calling All Cars competition. I mean, its not even about the ticket, its about pride now.

Maybe its all the Rubio's causing your hair to want to get the hell outta there :)

I thought the Turok demo sucked pretty bad, loved Burnout though I think the USB camera photo thing was a great idea. Love the seamless online mode too.

Turok Rocks? Ha, with some many FPS's coming out next month this one is def not one to check out, sorry gamestop but i wouldn't be telling people this game rocks...

First off, im working on growing that vaj.

okay now that i got that out of the way, the turok demo was alright, its not going to win game of the year or anything, but its a nice addition to the series.

As for the team effort thing, i think most of the people you reach with blog interviews, your blog posts... shit anything on the internet, understand that in this day and age 1 man can't be the only person behind a video game, this isn't 1986, and to make games of the highest calibur (which eat sleep play no doubt does) you not only need a team, but a team that knows what the fuck they're doing.

If it seems people want to interview you more often than the team itself, i think it's because a lot of fans think they can connect with you, personally i like the way you maintain your sense of professionalism without giving up the colorful vocabulary, or the ability to tell it like it is.

As for going bald, im gad your not sweat'n it.. check this site out: www.shaveverywhere.com, its not bad or anything, or.. really relating to being bald, but you'll laugh.

LOL. I just turned 37 a few months ago and I have the same internal monologue, followed by the same discussion with the woman who cuts my hair. I don't care about going bald either--I'm much more paranoid about appearing to be the kind of guy who's pretending he's not going bald when it's clear to everyone else that he is.

fuck turok. I was never a fan of the previous games and this one didn't convert me.

Hey Dave,

When your wife stops trying to run her fingers through your hair It's time.

If she has already stopped, your past that time.

When your youngest pats you on the head when your tying her shoe and says "Oh shiney", your waaaay past that time.

Hey Jaffe,
Well I had fun with the Turok demo, I don't know about other people. I mean it's awesome to feel like a badass when you take down a raptor with a knife. So deffinately check out the demo, I know I won't buy it but I'm a poor college kid but I'm still gonna rent it. So yeah, not best ever but worth a shot.
Peace

PS:Quick thought, is anything happening with the New Years Contest. I won that a while ago and I was just wondering about it. So yeah... see ya.

ya the pepole thought Head on was just a port so i had to go to each one and tell it more then just a port and there where like 10 guys to geather from all 4 gamestops here that herd me and they preorder it mostly for the TMB2 Levels and all of its goodies. im going to get Turok cosue one part i saw you can lour your enemys into a trap and have them get eating and you go off what you need to do with out worring about being eatin your self.

Baldness well dont know what to say, its your hair your chose

ya none of the game would have have been the way they are with out a team, its the team effert that makes making game fun.

grasshopper: I sure hope it's not the Rubio's that causes baldness because then I only have a few more months before mine starts falling out...I eat those bean and cheese burritos like nobodies business...but anyways, Dave, if you don't have a problem being bald, why not just preemptively shave it off? If worse comes to worse, you can always get a sweet wig . =)

OH SHIT! My bad, sorry for wasting your time. I was just reading through some comments on a previous blog and saw the same New Years Contest question. Sorry!

David,

When do you shave your head?

Since your married, technically you don't actually own your hair, so you will need to fill out forms GOWTM2 & WMJM02 to accuire the proper permit, and file these with your wife within a 24hours period on a Wednesday. :)

I shaved my head once... to see what i will look like without hair... and i look weird... looks like rugs and plugs for me!!

Just don't g George Costanza on us and wear a toupee for an episode. :D

You don't necessarily need to bic your head. You could just be known as that guy who wears an assortment of sweet hats. Baseball, cowboy, top, there's plenty to choose from.

Hey Hey!!

Burnout Rocks!... Every arcade racer should take notes from Criterion(seamless online gameplay and entire city open from the beginning).

Turok - I played the demo, and I deleted it within 20 mins... but today we received the retail copy and we loaded it up, and I gotta say it plays better. It's also, I think, the most polished game using the Unreal Engine, second only to UT3 (of course).

TWISTED METAL - If you live in SF, and would like to take TM: H-O ETE, for spin, just stop on by the PlayStation store... we have the game up and running on couple of our kiosks. I was playing it today, and I felt at home ;-D

Thanks TM team!!!

David, you'll love Burnout, at least I do :-)

Based on the demo, no, Turok is not very good, especially when you can get great 1st Person FPS' such as Resistance, CoD4, and UT3.

David,
I shaved my head at age 21 when I started to just look silly. Shaving it weekly and doing it yourself will probably not only keep it looking good, but also save you money.
The one thing you might want to check in advance, though, is the shape of your head. You don't want to look like a giant baby - you can't influence that, anyway, but at least you'll know. Based on that you might choose 2mm or 10mm as the future lenght of your hair. It's that easy...
Personally, from what I see on those interview pictures of you, my advice woul be to cutr it to 10mm (1/2 inch) now.

Anonymous said...

David, I think in the interviews you're just suppose to speak for the other people. I see actors do that all the time in interviews, talking about how so and so does CGI, so and so does make-up, etc. Maybe you can't talk about it in detail if you don't actually do their work, but at least mention how they help you do what you do and how you work together.

Okay, about the hair, I know you said to Davis that you didn't want to work to keep it. I would keep it, that's just me, because I think having hair is the best look, but of course it's up to you. I know you're busy making awesome games. :) Personally, all of the Twisted Metal games with your name on them are my favorite games in the world! I know that the other people who've worked on them are really important and that it's not just you; but I feel like when you are on the team, the game just isn't going to suck but will in fact just kick ass!!!

And finally, I have just one other thing I really want to mention. I have noticed on the side of your blog you have said you are voting for Obama, and it's because of a gut feeling. But I just want to say that I don't think he will make a good president, and that's because he is pro-war and he will profit off the war. Yes he says he will pull troops out of Iraq, but only combat troops. He will keep all other troops in there to protect the oil (he only tries to make it sound like you're getting a deal). He also wants to go to war with Iran for the same reason as Iraq: weapons of mass destruction (a.k.a. WMD's). It's the same excuse as Iraq. And then he will use first-strike as opposed to diplomacy. But the truth is there is even more oil in Iran, and this is a very likely reason he would go to war with them, considering he takes money from lobbyists. Thousands of more innocent people will die again if he is elected. He's just blood for oil, just like Bush. Just like Hillary, and just like every other Republican running for president, except for Ron Paul (he might as well be a Democrat), and except for Mike Gravel on the Democrat's side. Those are the only two candidates left who are 100% opposed to going to war without diplomacy first. And they are also the only candidates that don't take money from lobbyists. I know you said you always go with your gut feeling, but maybe, at least, this time, you could check those two guys out before you make a decision?... I personally, really want Gravel, but he probably won't win. I want the war to end, and not start another illegal war, and so since I think Ron Paul has a much better chance of winning, I have recently thrown him my support.

Okay, that was long, sorry... but thanks for listening! And I look forward to playing the new Twisted Metal!...

Hey David. Gotta agree with the comment that if you are involved, the game will rock. However I can't deny the skills of the other members of Eat Sleep Play, the former Incog, the former Singletrac. These are the guys who made Critical Depth and Rogue Trip, two truly amazing games.

We actually had a lesson (I study to be a game designer) on exactlly the subject that you shoulnd't be a "rockstar" when it comes to team effort. I think it's the media that makes a game look like "Oh it's a David Jaffe game". But at the same time you are a popular face and off course that sells. So it's a thin line to walk on I think.

Turok demo was pretty lame, the dude at gamestop must of had his boss hiding under the counter or something.

As for the nasty vid, anyone who makes their wife watch 2 girls 1 cup is alright in my book... lol

btw your wife is beautiful.

Turok...yeah, isn't too great at all. I saw a video of the T-rex battle the guy just hid under a big tree root and the T-rex just bumbled back and forth like an idiot until it died. I never thought you could make battling a T-rex boring but they did somehow.

I'd say start with the buzz cut. People will be shocked (gasp!), but will eventually get over it and used to it. Some people even prefer it! Weird huh.. then when it gets really bad and you shave it no one will really notice or care since they are used to seeing you with a buzz cut. Go for a 1 or 2.
