SICKY SUNDAY + EAT SLEEP PLAY INTERVIEW

Whole house is sick with colds. Up all nite with my oldest who had a fever. At one point neither of us could sleep so we just said screw it (well, she didn't say that, she is 5) and we went downstairs, rented Disney's Aladdin on the Playstation Store (God I love digital distribution!), and watched cartoons for a few hours.

Today has been a mix of watching Christmas cartoons on TV with the girls (along with bits of the Wizard of Oz), reading a book, and playing games on STEAM (Crazy Machines, Pirates, TF2...inches away from downloading a new game I had never heard of until I got into Steam called NEXUS: The JUPITER INCIDENT)...

Oh hey, speaking of Steam: do any Steam users know if there is a way to get an itemized bill of all the games you have purchased and what they have cost?

Ok, but so anyway- back to my Sunday:

So it's crazy low key and we're all sick...but it's actually kind of a nice, chill Sunday. I'm digging it.

Oh and I wanted to post a link to an interview Scott Campbell and I did last week for PSX EXTREME, a blog/game site focused on Playstation.

Give it a read if you are so inclined!

Take care- talk later!

David

On the steam home page inside the client you can hit "your account" and get a list of everything you've purchased with prices for about a year. Don't know about going back farther.

Anagnos- thanks man! Appreciate the tip!

Hope you and your family get healthy. Gotta open up those presents under the holiday tree soon!

That stinks that your family is sick but over all that sounds like a great weekend with the kids.

I'll check the interview out.

ps.. What book are you reading?
I just finished with Watchmen (not really a book but it's still good) and I'm moving on with the Dark Tower series.

Saw that inreview two days ago(i think) really good interview, loved questions and answers. But part about making FPS at some point in future did surprise me. David Jaffe working on FPS?!

Well I just saw that interview and I thought it was pretty good. And yes it is cool having your own console exclusive developers, so thanks for staying exclusive. ^^

After watching a dude stick a glass jar in his bum is a good enough reason to be sick.

btw (looking at "YOU MUST EAT HERE:"), if you're ever in Massachusetts near Beverly, look for Nicks Famous Roast Beef. It's one of my fav places to eat :P

Oh yeah, and Eagles Deli in Boston. Their biggest burger has 5 pounds of beef, 20 slices of cheese, 20 pieces of bacon, and comes with 5 pounds of fries.

Mmmmm... Giant-ass burgers :P

Jaffe,

Could you recommend any Game Design books or sites that you think or have found useful?

Cheers Mate

Good read...

Do you think ESP is "safer" in today’s economy because you decided to develop larger games? If you had stuck with ESP's orginal business model developing PSN titles... Do you think EPS would be more susceptible to the weak economy?

hey dave,

the interview on psx is really good.. actually in reading it i realized something

i hope your new game isnt twisted metal...i know alot of people (everyone here) would likely disagree...but the truth is, TM has been played...and Black was awesome but really is there that much "new" that could be done to the series?

but new ips are rare....the fact is alot of developers sloth some new ip into a trash shovel ware game and it never makes it past that..but the world needs new ips

and the fact is you and your team have done awesome things before so i think e.s.p. would be a perfect team to bring something fresh into the market

....it only came to my mind because when you and scott were talking about mirrors edge in the interview, this was posted "Scott talked about this same topic, but as he revealed certain things we promised we wouldn't talk about just yet, we are holding that back until they're ready to officially announce everything"

so im hoping that disclaimer posted right under the new ip discussion was a point at whats happening.....or i can be wrong and will enjoy another TM game :)

cheers

(again sorry about the comment a few posts ago...i hope you caught my reply that it wasnt directed at you)

that was a fine interview... well, I guess the GOW3 part was unavoidable, but I found David's answer very honest on the question "why did you leave Sony ?"

Read the interview, and while I'm not necessarily a GFX whore, I was pretty disappointed with Warhawk from a technical standpoint.

Here's to hoping ESP can rev the engine up a tad. We don't need no Renaissance painting, but something a tad better would be nice with the power of the PS3.

Over all, we just need something fun, well thought out, with few bugs and interesting to play.

One thing I plead is to keep scale in mind!

Not sure if it was design, or just overlooked, but every single Twisted Metal had scale issues between the levels and the character cars. The cars where huge and towered over houses in suburbia or the cars and streets of Paris in HOETE.

Love the games, but that always took me out of it a tad and I never could guess why the decision was made on the scale differences. I'd love to hear your take :)

Cool interview. Can't wait to see the unveil of the new project. If it's not TM, I'll try not to go on a murderous rampage. But for society's sake, I hope it is.

Hope the family gets better soon. You really wanna catch a cold, come up here to Toronto. Two feet of snow in the last couple of days. Just miserable.

Sent a Club join request thingy a couple of days ago.

Sorry your family is sick..hope you feel better for the holidays, enjoy your break.

Neat interview, it was a good read, I gotta say.

I really enjoy how personable you are with fans of your games and the media, like with interviews and such, Dave. You seem much more human than someone like Miyamoto, who I imagine lives in some castle high above the clouds. :)

How's MGS4 goin' for you? I'm interested in your overall opinion. The gameplay looks stellar.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY (Nah, I'm not yelling at you ^_^)

Ok, it's done, now it's time to leave my PC and start drinking ;-)

So I see your gonna be using the Warhawk engine...I kinda wonder why since it's about 2 years old but maybe with updates you can get a little more outta it. I will say if it is a Twisted Metal Game, I can see how the War Hawk engine could work...I think it would be more like Twisted Metal 2 especally with the physics part of the game...anyway I'm excited for more infomation maybe after the Jan thing with Sony...
