BURN THE WITCH!

Seriously Jaffe, this is news to you? "Liberal Media Bias" has been a pet conspiracy theory of conservitives since forever. So much so that one of the biggest news orginasations in your country was created purely to fill that (rather fucking large) niche.

Take a chill pill, swig some chardonay and watch the colbert report. No need to confect all this outrage.

PS. All your doing here is torching straw men. The only thing it adds to is your nortoriety (the 'nets equivelent of penis size, no?).

I'd love to see you do something substantle like, say, take apart Mc Cains health care policy. In this case, your just part of the distraction.

Michael Jarvis said...

It is people like those that think the media should be censored...

But I think you have to understand that, while yes the person was clearly lacking in some common sense, he (or she) is only one person. Not to say there aren't more like them but, in my opinion, people like you (Jaffe) far outweigh the people like him/her.

The real unfortunate thing about all this is that regardless of what someone like you or I (in other words, a 'nobody') think, the media will do as they please, whether it be tell the truth and question politicians honestly, or side with them and lie through their teeth.

It is points like these that make having an opinion almost useless...

*sigh*

That is not to say I don't enjoy listening to your rants/opinions/etc as I very much do. :P

Keep on truckin' as they say.

David Jaffe said...

Sorry anon, but...no.

Maybe at a later date I'll get educated on the specifics of McCain's health care plan. And I need to as I am reading up on both of the candidate's issues.

But right now, I have no problem being fucking pissed. For YEARS the Republicans have held the monopoly on anger and aggression and swinging back when unfairly attacked. Well for once - in the last 2-3 months- I've seen liberals and democrats starting to counterpunch and it fucking feels GOOD. So forgive me if I don't take the 'high road' at the moment...there is time for that.

Right now, I'm just enjoying torching whomever the fuck needs torching.

Telling me to calm down is the same as the whole, 'Get over the election bullshit...it's old news' or 'Well, we're in Iraq now, no reason to bitch about if we were lied to or not'....FUCK THAT. Time to rage...at least for a bit :)

To the post above my previous.

He is only a distraction to those that disagree with his opinion, or to those that deem it futile to even HAVE an opinion.

To all others, such as myself, it comes off as owning your own brain. Regardless of what I said above I am all for having ones own opinion.

.. That is all ..

@Da criminal

Well, it's your blog and your country (I'm an Aussie)... I'd be pretty pissed too if GWB and co. had run this little island the last 8 years.

That said, saying: "well, they had their turn to stupid and angry, so now it's mine goddamit!" is just plain fucking immature.

Doing it publicly is the kind of thing that turns ellections into just another shit fight.

Might as well get P. Diddy to run the campaign.

Michael Jarvis said...

@Anon

I am not quite sure what you found 'stupid' in Davids rant..?

o_O

David Jaffe said...

Anon- respect your take on it.

But like you said, you have not lived thru this shit for 8 years, have not lived thru being called unpatriotic, have not been told to go life in France because you have a fucking free thought or because you oppose a bullshit war.

The atmosphere for non neocons has been downright hostile in the USA for 7 years-and a bit beyond- and it's hard to take the high road...don't even WANT to take the high road.

David

@geta-ve

Umm... Could you point out the intelligent opinions he expressed?

("Fuck you hippocrits!" doesn't count)

If he enjoys ranting, and people enjoy listening to it then fine. But you can't seriously pretend there's anything virtuose or even vaguely constructive in that video.

Michael Jarvis said...

@Anon

You didn't answer my question. Nor did I say his rant was intelligent..

You seem to have a black and white view on intelligence and stupidity.

I think it is inherently stupider thinking the media should censor itself according to XX party.

He gave reasons behind his thinking, which in my opinion shows the opposite of a lack of intelligence.

I dunno man, I just didn't find the rant particularly stupid. I am not saying it was an essay worthy rant but I just don't see how you could classify it as stupid. Perhaps a little immature, but can, or even, should he be faulted for that? lol

That is akin to you saying you never get upset.

God, is that you?!

Anonymous said...

@Da criminal

Well, I'd have hoped that you WOULD wanto take the high road, if for no other reason than because SOMEONE FUCKING HAS TO!

That said, I can't possibly imagine your frustration, but I do sympathise with it..... And yet, (yes, this is a long bow) I'm reminded of the very attitude that got your country into Iraq:

"they hurt us real bad, so fuck civility, fuck international law, it's our turn to ditch morality and just do what feels good for once... oh, and your either with us or against us, disagree and you might as well go live in france!"

Jaffe, you are the motherfucking man. You see that anger boiling inside you. That's me. Every. Goddamn. Day.

This woman is going to have to talk Putin out of starting a war with other countries and she can't take hard questions from the media? What happens when Putin or China even, say something that she feels was disrespectful?

Think about it like this. Outside of the fact that she's a woman, do you want her to have her finger on "the button" that potentially causes WWIII when she can't even tell you what she believes in without her memorizing a goddamn script?

Unbe-fucking-lievable.

@get-ve

Well, maybe 8 years of Bush has caused you folks to lift the bar on stupidity. Again, I sympathise.

And yeah, I get pissed (not at god, I'm an atiest), but I don't film it and stick it on the web. Actually I'd be embarressed if something did.

Anonymous said...

*I meant "lower the bar", of course!

I wonder what kind of ignorance it takes to assume that I am American simply because I was defending Jaffe's rant?

The funny thing here is though that while you are certainly free (I believe) to visit this site just like the rest of us, no one actually asked you (unless they did.. then nevermind) to come here and sit through his rant.

I would say I sympathize with you, but I think that would be giving myself too much credit in the caring about others department.

Perhaps empathize is the better word. Though even that seems like a stretch.

Those of us who are angry now the the ones who thought we should NOT have gone to war, no matter how angry we were over 9/11. At least not to war with Iraq.

There's a difference and the anger a lot of us feel now comes from a logical place. It makes sense to be angry and the folks who have fucked up our country.

Iraq did not fuck up our country and it made no sense to many of us to go to war with them.

Anger on it's own is not bad. It's an issue of where you direct at, and at whom.

As for not filing yourself ranting, so what. Don't do it. But hey man, you know what to expect if you come here. You clicked on the link or typed davidjaffe.biz into your address bar.

Anyway, I'm just a humble commenter on YOUR blog, so if this is really just about you getting a chance to vent, and others getting a chance to cheer you on, then let me know and I'll fuck off.

You try living in a country where 4000 of your people have died for no good reason.

The result=anger.

Can you funnel into something useful? Hell yeah. Looking forward to millions of us doing just that come NOV 4th. But right now, it's just anger. Maybe I can't expect you to understand unless you are a liberal American.

david jaffe i believe the media should had a level of respect for their family life i believe their family should be off limit, everything else isnt and should be asked by the press.i do express that its seem that tough question are not being ask about the candit but more of thier family instead of what they will do if they get elected.
let me know what u think of what i said.

David Jaffe said...

I think if you are a politician and part of your story IS your family- in the case of Palin- then it's fair game.

If you bring your fucking brood onto the stage- and this goes for ALL of them, Obama included- and USE them to get positive points (i.e. 'look, his family is so nice!' or 'oh, she didn't have the abortion') then YOU as a politician have decided that your personal life is PART of your campaign...in that case, I think the media can ask those questions and cover those issues....otherwise, I agree, it should be off limits.

Oh come on man, that movie inspired me to become a guitarist way back when.

Clearly the cultural differences here are just too wide, we might as well be speaking different languages.

Just in case though, I'll put my point in the words of your own president:

"With those attacks, the terrorists and their supporters declared war on the United States. And war is what they got."

...and the rest is history.

I just happen to think that the Red vs. Blue war in your country is partly why someone like Bush could get elected. So I dont' like to see it fueled gratuitously and publicly.

Maybe when Obama wins the election you'll reconsider. Cheers.

David Jaffe said...

You are right to an extent- MOST people are more in the middle and balanced. MOST are not as liberal as me or as conservative as the guy I was quoting. And THANK GOD for that :)

erico316 said...

i agreed with u on that if they use their family as a tool to gain a positive out look then of course the media should ask them about their family.but if they're family isnt use as a tool it should otherwise be off limit .good to see some1 agreed with me.

I always thought the whole LIBERAL MEDIA conspiracy thing was hilarious considering "media" is such a broad term to describe vast and vast amounts of individual publishing companies, journalists, editorials, etc whom may or may not have different biases and/or leanings towards other candidates.

Kind of off topic but not, but Dave, did you see the SNL skit with Tina Fey as Sarah Palin? She had it down to a T.

I'm there with you, Mr. Jaffe.

Here is how I feel about things. I want to change things. I want to change things for the better. But, I'm not in politics. I'm a programmer. So, all I can do is go to work, eat, sleep, play, pray and vote.

In order to vote, I study the candidates... I pick the lesser of two evils (let's be honest... Obama is awesome... he seems fairly intelligent, he's got some great ideas, he's a wonderful orator, etc... but, he still has a little bit of politician sleaze emanating from his pores.) It's all that I would hope the rest of America would be doing.

However, when I see hordes and hordes of people cheering on Palin when she just talks about her husband's accomplishments, starts talking about how many NFL athletes have both Alaska and Colorado in common (because she's speaking in Colorado,) and then just starts generically pushing for everyone to vote for McCain and herself... just proves more and more than voting for the masses is no longer about issues... it's about rooting for a team, no matter what that team stands for.

Look, Bush is a Republican... McCain is a Republican. Nobody wants more of Bush's tactics... so McCain tries to distance himself from Bush. But what does this mean? Can a Republican be 100% different from another Republican? If so, then what does the title really mean anymore? Is it nothing more than, say, calling someone a Raiders fan? And if there IS a commonality between Republicans... why did the Republican party not disown Bush a long time ago and say "He's a very bad example of a Republican. We're sorry."

For me, personally, the titles don't really matter much. They shouldn't. But for those who will just vote Republican every time, no matter what, even if the currently running Republican promises to be 100% different than the Republican of the last 8 years just reeks of Sheeple.

Ultimately, it gets really frustrating to realize that my vote... my educated vote... my well thought out vote... which takes the past, present, and future into account... gets completely nullified by a single vote of one of these Sheeple who wouldn't have the slightest clue what McCain will or will not do for them, or even what role Palin would need to fill other than saying she's a "VP".

Honestly, at this point, I think that voters should only be allowed to register if they can answer some very basic questions about the political process and about issues. You have to pass a test to drive your own car... why don't you have to pass a test to elect the person who will control your future and the future of millions of others for 4 years or more?

I also think that candidates should be required to be straight forward about certain SPECIFIC tactics that they plan to implement once in office. Just saying rhetoric like "change" or "boost the economy" or things along those lines, while keeping their cards held closely to their chest just reeks of being completely clueless and unprepared.

In an interview with Palin, it seemed clear that she had no idea what she was in for. She was just waiting around to WIN... and then would just see how the first day on the job will be, and would take it one day at a time, welcoming the "challenge." Our country isn't around for her amusement to challenge herself... either they both have concrete ideas about precisely what they will do to solve our problems, or they should step aside and let someone else take over. The only "winners" in a Presidential election should be THE PEOPLE.

In any case, I understand your anger... it's good to let it out sometimes... don't forget to vote... yadda yadda yadda...

Uncle Jimbo said...

Someone has his eyes closed. Are you honestly saying that the media today is, for the most, part fair and unbiased? Let's compare the news media of today, driven by ratings and blipverts to the journalism of mid 1900's when it was taboo to show partiality to any side of the issue at hand.

We have very few journalists today. Most are there to provide commentary on sound bites and youtube videos. Edward Murrow is sitting on a cloud somewhere singing the parody "Where have all the journalists gone".

Hannity and Colmes are retarded, Gibson is an idiot, and some people actually take Geraldo Rivera seriously. Tim Russert was as unique in this day as Jackie Robinson was in his. The network news departments, once very powerful, are now tainted, each with their own agendas and lobbyists. Objective reporting is a thing of the past and if you can't see that, then they have truly won. Your statement about what they should be, hard-nosed, tough question asking reporters is spot on. But that's far from the reality. The intent behind every question and comment should be considered very carefully.

And please understand, I don't consider this either a liberal or a conservative thing. It's a diversion thing. It doesn't matter if it's Fox News, CNN, American Idol, or Hasslehoff's "private" videos. The media has one objective, money. The parties have two objectives, money and keeping the American people distracted or, at a minimum, divided.

Our Constitution is increasingly being ignored by both parties and most of the American public is too distracted, too self-absorbed, or too stupid to care.

David Jaffe said...

State of journalism SUCKS today for the most part, no doubt.

The that does NOT mean the ROLE of journalism- as intended as the 'fourth estate'- should go away.

It also does not mean that- since we have a 95% shit rating for most journalists- that the powers that be get a free pass to be treated like kings versus public servants and it does not mean that we should act shocked and not support it when someone does get the balls- on EITHER side- to ask the tough questions.

For example, in the same way I applaud the women on THE VIEW the other day for grilling McCain, I LOVED Bill O'Reilly's Obama interview...it was informative and tough and really good and for the first time, I actually LIKED O'Reilly.

So there are beacons of light from time to time and when we see them, we should support them and encourage them, don't you think?

I agree to an extent. But can we really be encouraged by an individual act of solid journalism when the overall agenda is unknown? At the end of the day, the only people I trust less than lawyers and reporters are politicians.

The role of public advocate will always be there (especially in this digitally connected world), but both the media and the political establishment are failing in their responsibilities to the people. And only the people can do something about it.

David, et al, we need to put aside the liberal and conservative tags, put aside the distracting issues and focus on forcing our elected officials to recognize and address the slow but steady encroachment on our personal liberties and the Constitution. Don't get caught up in the drama. It's doesn't matter whether it's the Patriot Act or socialized health care, all of the major legislation over the last 50 years has taken away our personal liberties, created bigger government, and eroded the foundation of this once great country. Those actions and anyone supporting them are the real enemy.

David Jaffe said...

I am only partially the enemy then as I support universal health care- as long as those with the means can purchase their own as an option if they want OUT of the government program- but I do NOT support a a number of key provisions of the Patriot Act.

You think the media works for you? That is the most stupid thing to say. They works for the money you idiot. That is why they affiliate with whatever organization that provides the best benefit for the present and/or future.

David Jaffe said...

YES he voted for the bill- read the whole fucking story.

NO ONE claims he did NOT vote for the bill.

What they claim- and they are correct- is that the bill proposed sex education for K-12 with the INTENTION behind the bill being that for little kids, the sex education that would be taught would be:

-How to recognize and protect yourself from sexual predators
-HIV/AIDS as a disease in our society

The liberal media did NOTHING but report this information. Same with FOX- who actually did a GREAT job on this story- assuming you don't lump them into the liberal media.

Anonymous said...

Dave,

Did you even read the bill?

Here is an excerpt for you:
" Each class or course in comprehensive sex education offered in any of grades K through 12 shall include instruction on the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, including the prevention, transmission and spread of HIV AIDS."

Comprehensive sex education is in there.

dumbass liberal. I said that because I know you like it.

David Jaffe said...

I mentioned HIV/AIDS in my post, cock feaster.

What is your point?

There is nothing you just wasted your time posting that I- or anyone with a thinking brain- think is a problem.

You don't WANT little kids to be aware of AIDS so they can:

a- be compassionate to those who may have it (and it's a decent amount of folks given that right wing nut jobs are against teaching sex ed in schools and giving out condoms to folks they KNOW are gonna screw)

b- be vigilant so they can be careful but respectful of those in their lives who may have the disease?

Oh right, right, you neocons who CLAIM to be on the side of Jesus could give fuck all about being compassionate to those who have a terrible affliction. I forgot.

David

Anonymous said...

Dave dumbass,

The point of McCain's ad was that Obama voted for a comprehensive sex education for kindergartens.
He didn't lie. The liberal media jumped on him for telling the truth?

David Jaffe said...

NO, lord, it's in the intent behind the bill. Think man.

Do you THINK the bill is in place so teacher's can be like:

'You stick the penis in the vagina'

to 5 year olds?!?! I'm a liberal motherfucker and I got kids and that- coming from ANYONE but a parent- is too far and hell, at that age, coming from ANYONE is probably a bit too young...

...the bill is not ABOUT that. It's about teaching AIDS and being wary of sexual predators.

I mean, that is common sense. The media is simply making it clear that the ad McCain put out is NOT Obama out there saying 5 year olds should know about fucking.

That is clear to anyone who thinks.

I'm genuinely curious about this and I suppose I should look it up myself (and will if no one can answer) but can someone quote the pertinent Jaffe referred to? I'm interested in knowing where it restricts what can be taught?

I am opposed to any federal program that limits the states ability to govern and manage themselves and their citizens, including "universal health care". Now if a state wants to start providing health care to their citizen, more power to them.

But I think you might have missed my point, which is that all these programs are designed to make a larger, stronger federal government. And that is bad. It's the same slippery slope our forefathers predicted and tried to avoid with the tenth amendment.

Anyone who thinks that federally mandated regulation of things like employment, education, and health care is BETTER than state or local regulation is an asshat. How can a single universal program provide the proper support to such a geographically and culturally diverse country as the USA? Are the health care needs (and costs) of citizens of Hawaii the same as Alaska or New York? There is no way to provide a simple, manageable, effective program like that at the federal level. We are become a Nanny state on par with our friends across the pond. We need to start taking care of our own, and not expecting the government to help us out.

Yes, I agree 100%. If these things could be state driven, all the better. I think it would go a long way towards calming some of the bitterness we see in politics as well. David, I think it's great that you're concerned about what's going on in the world; and you question not only the other side, but your side as well. And you give both sides a chance to hear what they have to say. But the media?... I know that part of what fueled your anger in this video is that you felt the media was being wrongfully attacked. I mean it's the people who are to blame in the end, but I think you're giving the main stream media too much credit. They've done far more harm than good. They lie almost all of the time. CNN, Fox, et al all lie, or they feed you full of bullshit and very little objective journalism. Their main purpose is to brainwash people. Who do you think conditioned people into believing it was okay to go to war with Iraq? I mean, people should be doing a lot of their own research and figuring things out for themselves (which btw, I hope you keep doing that because you are going to start seeing that the media is just blowing a lot of smoke in your face), but it's not like the media shouldn't bear any responsibility for what they report. I am glad when they ask questions, but my problem with that is that they don't ask enough questions, and they're not tough enough, and not relevant enough.

Here is a good documentary about how the media got us into war with Iraq, on purpose, and it's called called "Weapons of Mass Deception":

http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=in+debt+we+trust&hl=en&emb=0&aq=f#q=weapons%20of%20mass%20deception&hl=en&emb=0

I promise it's worth checking out, and it's a real eye-opener. And you know, with all of your interest in politics and wishing you could direct movies, maybe this could be inspiring. I mean you're getting some dialogue going on here, which is great, but maybe you could also go out and expose the truth to more people (that's actually what I want to do myself), because if there's one thing that's getting little recognition, it's the truth.

Anyways, just a suggestion. But I'm just barely scratching the surface by exposing the media to you. There's just so much more truth out there that is being kept under wraps...

You miss my point.

I think the media FUCKED UP HARD when it came to Iraq and all kinds of other things. They have been pussies and wimps for YEARS and all I was saying is:

a- some idiots in the public have gotten USED to it and now have been TRAINED into assuming that the media is SUPPOSED to be a mouthpiece for EITHER party. That is BULLSHIT.

b- When the media DOES wake up and start probing- and it happened on THE VIEW this week, it happened on FOX this week with Obama and O'Reilly, and it's happening ALOT with folks pushing back on McCain, it makes be VERY VERY HAPPY that it's possible the media could be waking up again and are not going to be fed bullshit but is going to hit back.

That was my point.

I've seen parts of that doc you recommend and loved it. Would like to see the whole thing.

Is David Jaffe really that stupid?
The shows The View and O'Reilly attacked both candidates with agenda. They were not that obvious like Gibson's interview with Palin.
The media will never wake up. Get real.

David Jaffe is right to be peveed.

Bush is the worst President in the history of the US and he still hasn't gotten impeached.

Those outside the US just don't understand what is going on in the US. We are the middle of what may very well be the beginning of a new Civil War. What happened in France during the French Revolution might very well happen here in the near future. A small group of rich people are gaining power over the US with political pawns to ensure they remain safe and sound while nearly all of the population suffers. People of all races and religions of the US are being used as nothing more than fodder to be sacrificed at the whims of some corporate President.

Yes, the media works for money and they aren't perfect. However, the media was originally based on the pursuit of truth and as a way to balance the corruption of government by holding government accountable for their actions.

While the media fails to do its job, it is beyond asinine for anyone to say that the media shouldn't do its job.

The ones that created the United States created the media for the purpose to ensure that a king would never come to power in the US.

The Republicans which was once the party of the people has been turned into nothing more than a corporate lackey.

The Democrats that are the last great hope for this nation are being usurped by corporations.

Obama that is the one guy that can save the US from total collapse is fighting for our survival while a bunch of idiots that don't have a clue about what is going on are supporting the lies of the bad guys.

Best Post Ever!!! I missed the O'Reilly and Obama thing but honestly I can't sit through O'Reilly's hypocrisy. Olbermann and Obama was good tho. Like I've said before, Politics is marketing. There are tons of idiots that eat up these republican fear campaigns. Im getting more and more worried that Obama might lose if he can't convince these (independent) idiots. With Economics as the big issue it's even more troubling as more idiots will look at the "don't raise my taxes" issue and think "wow I'm poor now.. they better not raise my taxes!". The Obama campaign needs to press the issue that republicans are the reason we are in this failed economy and republicans will raise middle class family taxes (We, the smart people, know that the republicans will raise taxes just like the democrats will, the point is which policy is better!). The fact that the political race is tight (close to 50% each) is scary... Change needs to happen problem is it's not looking good (for the democrats). 49 days and counting....

Oh on a side note, I love how we (the country) are moving towards socialism because 1. taxes now pay for the Freddie Mac and Fannie May mess up 2. AIG is probably (if not already) getting a government loan and 3. We are getting loans from other countries increasing our debt! and the republicans are blaming democrats for our problems, what a joke. And republicans want more de-regulation, give me a break... Don't get me wrong I believe in a strong center (some capitalism some socialism) but we need regulation so this doesn't happen again.

No, the "fucking idiots" are the people who think CNN, Fox News and MSNBC are "the media". News flash: anything with analysis/opinions and/or is meant for entertainment is NOT the media. C-Span, the 6 o'clock news with the boring anchors, and newspapers (but not editorials) are the media. The media is meant to deliver the news to you, not comment on it.

Unfortunately, a lot of idiots base their opinions on the opinions of other people. These people are the real idiots.

If we wanted to win the war on terror, we could just forbid Muslim people from entering the country, or we could use our military to destroy the Middle East. I mean, even if you find wholesale slaughter or a billion people bothersome, there are subtler ways we could pacify them and control them that could work. For instance, we could put chemicals in their water supply that make them docile and congenial. Then you wouldn't have to kill a lot of people.

Hi David, I'm from Italy and I suggest whoever wants the press to "respect" politicians and be polite with them to have a look at the miserable condition of italian press.
In my country the general press is basically enslaved to the government... just in a polite way.
And the few real journalists are banned from almost all the big televisions and newspapers.
We are so fucked up that we need a comedian like Beppe Grillo to do the job of informing people and we are in such a desperate need of *real* journalism that the few guys who really do their job are becoming godlike idols.

Sorry for bad english.

David,

This is what needs to happen across the country to return legislative power to it's proper place, the states.

http://operationawakening.wordpress.com/2008/06/20/oklahoma-declares-sovereignty-under-tenth-amendment/

We can also be happy with this ruling. As it points out that the feds can't always get their way.

http://www.tenthamendmentcenter.com/2008/09/15/feds-violated-10th-amendment-again/

I haven't seen any coverage of either of these stories through any "serious" news outlet. The Oklahoma one specifically is one that should have gotten some visibility. But it threatens the power base of the federal government, and I'm sure that goes against the agenda for most of the major news services.

Reestablishing the legislative power of the state governments is critical to correcting many of the issues we have today.

As an aside, a big problem this country faces is the human desire to hold someone accountable. We want a democracy when it works and a monarchy when it doesn't. Bush, with all his ugly mistakes, carries too much of the blame for the situation we are in. And neither Obama nor McCain can correct it by themselves. Each area of our federal government has overstepped their Constitutional power, and Congress and the Supreme Court are just as guilty for the condition of our country and our current policies. To hang the blame solely on Bush is taking the easy way out.

We need to go back to the Constitution, reduce and eliminate unnecessary federal programs, and create appropriate state-level programs to take their place. For the liberals, that means no more "universal" health care, no more department of education, only the basics at the federal level. For the conservatives, that means no more Patriot Act, a reforming or elimination of the federal reserve, and the elimination of a number of federal law enforcement agencies.

State-based power is, IMO, the only way to get us out from under the broken system we are currently using.

Anonymous said...

Jimbo, we fought a civil war to eliminate state power. How can we go back? That was 150 years ago.

Today's politicians are global. They meet with other leaders from around the world all the time and they probably communicate on the internet or something. (Does President Bush communicate through the internet? Do any politicians seriously use the internet? They use telephones, but the net?)

Even back in the revolutionary days Benjamin Franklin would make trips to France and England and stuff to meet with leaders there.

States were only supposed to have so much power. The Federal government was envisioned from the start. That's what we decided on when the Constitution was signed. Or that's what some people decided on. Not everyone signed it...

And its not because I disagree, but because I want to hear about games, humerous stuff, etc. You can get election shit anywhere and everyone.

And for the record, I think (my opinion) its silly to think that ABC, NBC, and CBS are not liberally biased. Much sillier to believe that they are conservatively biased.

Alastor Mused said...

Jimbo, You make some interesting arguments. I agree that it's not just Bush's fault but his whole administration. I agree to some extent that state's should be a little more independent but with much globalization it's hard to tell how much independence. Globalization has turned countries into 1 gigantic entity and brought us closer to each other then anything else. Either way very interesting.

I'm with you Jaffe. 100%.

Uncle Jimbo said...

Alastor et al,

Not just Bush, not just his "administration". But the Supreme Court and Congress as well.

I'm not suggesting the federal government be eliminated just reduced in size. There are very explicit directives in the Constitution regarding the roles and responsibilities of the federal government. Now if it's decide that these need to be expanded, fine it's called an amendment. But our federal government doesn't use that process. They pass laws, rule on cases, and create new departments all while usurping the power of the states and the people.

Regarding the world political stage; one reason the executive branch was created was because the founding fathers knew that the US would need a single figure to represent it globally.

My point is that legislation that affects by liberties and my choices should be closer to home. Made by elected officials that understand the issues facing me and my community. National policies can't possible serve the best interested of everyone they're trying to help.

Mathew D. Two comments, you are correct that one outcome of the Civil War was a much stronger federal government. That doesn't mean it was a good outcome. Some argue that allowing the southern states to secede would have ultimately lead to later reunification without all the bloodshed (but that's another discussion). Interestingly, it was really a war of independence since the south wasn't interested in controlling Washington.

Second, you should do a little more research on the Constitution and the founding fathers. I think you'd be enlightened as to exactly how little power the states wanted to provide to the federal government. See the 10th amendment.

The point is made however, how does this union provide for it's citizens while still participating in the global environment.

At the end of the day, most politicians are in the business of collecting power and making money. It will be a great day indeed when the occupation of politician is replaced by the responsibility of politician.

David, thanks for the opportunity to share my thoughts.

Jaffe is kinda right, anyone asking the media to be respectful is a fucking retarded son of a retard. I'm not from the U.S but I kinda understand the anger he feels because we're the people and everyone else including the president. I mean c'mon it's not 1731 anymore.

Something about the american media pisses me off badly tho. It's more about if senator "random" jacks off to lesbian porn every saturday rather then something that's actually concerns politics.

And FOX news must be some kind clown television for people who can't think for themselves. I just cannot believe some pure humbug shit they spew out.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrfLjozo8NM

This particular fox "news" struck me. This became very debated and just became a nazi dick rubbing feast. It's full of factual errors and it's pretty much all anti muslim bullshit.

I'm actualy pretty proud to live in a country that take a lot of immigrants and giving them education and free healthcare. Should I not be? Should I be ashamed that we actually don't generalize muslims and give a shit? Fuck you fox news.

I know I pretty much rant for my self but whatever.

This whole deal with Sarah Palin is ridiculous. You can't go into an interview for a position and tell the employer/interviewer to not ask you questions. The President/VP works for US. WE are doing the hiring. WE need as much info about them as possible. As soon as they apply for such a position, they are giving up the majority of their rights to privacy so that they can govern for US. It's obvious that she can't answer any hard questions because she's not fit for the position. It's obvious that she doesn't want us to know about her personal life because skeletons keep coming out of her closet. As for all those people supporting this "figure" who's all character and no substance, it's hard for me to even consider them intelligent or patriotic.

Of course they do this. If the objective story is against you - attack the people telling it. It can't be that you're WRONG, or what you're saying doesn't stand up to even the slightest scrutiny, or that you're being called on flat-out lying - it must be that anyone who criticises you is waging a hateful and unfair campaign of smears.

That some people are stupid enough to buy it, though - that's depressing.
